I slept on and off that night. It was really strange, one minute I'd feel wide awake then suddenly I would just nod off. Anaesthetic does strange things to you like that. I got up the next morning, took myself off for a wash and got dressed. I managed to eat some cereal albeit reluctantly, but I did keep it down.
The entourage of Doctors came to do their rounds. 'Going somewhere?' the Registrar asked me.
I think I made it clear that I was going home, I can't remember what I said exactly, but they all started laughing. I got a sick note for work and they managed to round up my tablets, although I didn't really need any and Sparks came and collected me. After leaving a tin of chocs and a card for the staff, and doing a quick detour to Theatre to leave them some chocs, I was off.
It was fantastic to get home. For the first few days I just kept intermittently nodding off. Now, I'm just plain bored because I feel well. I know about it when I've overdone things but on the whole, I feel ok.
All in all, it was a very positive experience. I didn't have as much pain as I thought I would from the op. I don't remember anything about the anaesthetic, so it must have been good. The staff on the ward were kind and I have been amazed at how quickly I was mobile and how well I have felt. It was almost immediate, no feeling bilious, no horrible back pain and I can eat whatever I want.
Suppose I never really realised how rotten I felt before the op until I had it done.... I'm so glad I did.
