Hi, anyone got any old Premium Bonds lying around. Not sure how to check them?

You can check on the National Savings and Investments website (www.nsandi.com)

or you can ring 0845 964 5000 or

write to:- Premium Bonds, Natinal Savings & Investments, BLACKPOOL FY3 9YP

Go on, check, you might be sitting on a nest egg! :-)

Have you used the Premium Bonds calculator?...........the odds have greatly reduced recently............which is a shame because the more you have the more you could win but now the more you have your chances of winning have reduced and so has the value and amount of prizes......:(

The credit crunch effects every blood thing:(

I have just bought some Premium Bonds - might as well have a small chance of winning something when savings rates are peanuts.

Margaret..............you have to be in it to win it........
That's why I've just had a punt on the Euro Lottery for tomorrow night £89 million seems a nice pick up to me, but as you've said pipin you've got to be in it to win it:mosher:

One thing I've never understood, and never been fully explained, is the money left over, after all has been distributed, and can't be subdivided further.

Retlaw.

I have about £4000 in Premium Bonds. I bought the last lot about a year ago. I won £50, 8 years ago, when I only had a couple of thousand Bonds and didn't win again until in the last 6 months I have won £100. I know someone who has half the amount of Bonds I have and won £600 last year. Makes you sick, doesn't it?

Thats gambling for you.

re Accylass, teh sort of Bonds you are talking about are completely different to Premium Bonds. These will never lose their capital only their actual 'worth' due to erosion by inflation.

teh loss of 34K on Bonds and stocks are due to him being prepared to take a gamble with his money in return for the chance of a good return. like chucking it on teh gee gees investing means you should be only taken by people who know and accept teh risk of what they are doing.

Can someone please explain what they would do with £89 million? It is just obscene to have a prize fund that big, surely sharing it out among several smaller prizes would be better:(

We have just drawn most of our money out of the bank and got premium bonds,,,,cant be any worse off these days

Well Bernie if I won £89 million I'd have a word in Erics shell like and buy a football club:D

Perhaps I should invest my student loan. Apparently the government are going to have to start paying student loans back for us if we have deflation..

We set up a direct debit for premium bonds to be bought every month and have never looked back. We had two £50 prizes in the first year and we've still got our original investment. Every time we get to £1000 we sell the lot and buy a block of consecutive bonds to make the odds of winning that bit better. It's worked a treat so far even with the reduced cash pot and we still don't have that many bonds.

It's a great way of saving because eventually you stop missing that money and it's a nice rainy day fund.

Its a shame because the once regularly won £50 prizes have been reduced and you are more likely to end up with £25....still better than nowt i suppose.

The number of prizes has gone down but the ratio in each band remains the same. It's only until we emerge from recession properly and then hopefully things will pick up a bit as more people re-invest.

They're still an excellent way to save and another trick the Post Office are missing out on by not promoting them more. Most of the younger people I know aren't even aware of what they are.
