Personally I don't use a printer at home. If I have a letter or anything I print it at work (but even this is very rare). Any photos I just walk into Garth Dawsons with teh memory card, select what I want printing and go back 20 mins later. Quality pics that you won't get out of a home printer for pennies each. It really isn't worth messing about at home

IMHO I would never bother getting a home printer, you can get stuff printed far cheaper and better quality at the professionals

You should have a look in PC Cellular, they're really cheap for ink.

I've been looking around on the internet & a few local shops. The cheapest Epson is about £45/50.

Well Anne got a Epson 240 Printer for her 50th Birthday thanks to Accyweb members .
It take 4 ink cartridges so i Went for a walk down blackburn road and all the computer shops that sell them said it would be £8-£10 a set about £2 each which is a lot cheaper than the 1 cartridge for her HP which was anything upto £40

One thing to note though, the printers that have expensive cartridges are because they include ths print head on the cartridge so you effectively get a 'new' printer each time you replace them. The cheaper ones have integrated heads so teh quality will degrade over time, then its new printer time.

You pays your money and takes your chioce.

As for MH, a lot of places will print letters etc for you, you really don't need a printer for teh odd one, if you do a lot then fair enough, as its once is a blue do-dah for me its not worth it.

Prices in GDs vary on what size prints you want, IIRC, 6x4s for over 100 piccys is about 7p each (Yes you can get them slightly cheaper elsewhere, this normally takes a day or two ) TBH I prefer to support my local independant camera shop who is able to advise me when I need help with something. so much so I'm waiting for my new camera, Canon EOS 400D, from GDs as opposed to going and getting one from an internet supplier, price is within £20 and I know he'll spend time with me if I need to know how to do something or if I'm making a mistake he'll explain what I'm doing wrong.

I love my EOS. :) I've always loved Canons anyway.

For a good quality photo I'd get it printed by GD but I do write plenty of letters (mostly to school for various assorted reasons.) and the girls always have something they need to print out for homework so we'd be lost without one (or two)
;)

have tried the rest but find EPSON the best of the bunch,I have been using an R200 for printing my backup discs for two years and have had no probs(yet).but I do get my ink fairly cheap.

I have an Epson c44 as i know they do last & are a good make, i had a lexmark for less than 1 day & took it back cheap to buy but inks were not included & thats where they make their money on expensive ink, with my printer its so cheap on ink cartridges ;):D
Yes I agree. I use a C46 that came free with the PC but can't complain about the quality or the cheap price of replacement cartridges.

Cheapest printer to run,if you do a lot is Samsung laser aprox £ 200 quid inc vat to buy but forgrt about ink for 3 years you can buy them at a plce on network 65 these do photo printing to a reasonably good standard, lexmark do the best photo copying but the ink is dear and the ink monitor is a liar, wait till it dooes not print at all before replacing cartridge, for general printing Epsom are the cheapest ink wise 2 quid per cartridge or 8quid for all4anyone wanting any info on samsung pm me they are the cat's whiskers more so if you have kids doing homework the cheapest is 107quid pls vat complete with all toners saved me a fortune
