The present for Muti turned out to be a great success....she tutted about the money and I got the usual 'You shouldn't have'....I made the birthday card and the gift tag to match and she was entralled with them... that I had actually made them. She thinks that I am artistic... little does she know that I just pick the pictures, maybe write a verse and the computer does the rest. If I told her that she would tell me that at least the concept was mine... which is true I suppose.
Muti says she will get a lot of pleasure from reading my illustrated journal. I told her that while the experiences were essentially mine, they might jog some memories for her that I had forgotten. She laughed when she read what we were doing this time last year....the egg custard with a candle and a sparkler in it.
Just as she was reading about it my sister phoned from Brisbane.....Muti told her about the journal...Vanessa wants a copy too...so I will put it onto disc and send it out to her.
Although my sister is younger than me, her memory is terrible...she should really keep a journal because she forgets all the good times...and she couldn't believe that we were with her this time last year. She says it feels longer ago than that.
I told her that writing and illustrating the journal for Muti had been almost like a re-run of the visit.
She had forgotten that a year ago tomorrow we visited Caloundra.... bought fresh strawberries and took them up into the Glasshouse Mountains and ate them in the fresh air up there...we did share them with the parrots too. She had forgotten that we bought Macadamia nuts that were so fresh that the tree didn't even know they were gone....that we had been in the sea at Dicky beach and the waves had thrown us all over the place disarranging my sisters tankini top and bearing her not so modest bosoms...fortunately there were only us and the seagulls to notice. She had forgotten too that we had a lovely alfresco lunch in the centre of Caloundra for no other reason that we wanted a loo...the lovely food was a bonus...eating outside in the sunshine added to the pleasure. Memories....they can't be taxed, or stolen...you can mislay them...and they can lift a miserable autumn day and while they don't warm your joints, they certainly warm your heart.
