Thanks, lindsay. I am familiar with your family's long association with Accrington & Lancashire cricket because of my frequent visits to the Lancashire League Cricket Web site: http://lancashireleague.com/index.html

I have wondered for some time if your family is related to the Burnley cricketing Ormerods? I attended Burnley Municipal College with Donald Ormerod in the early 1940s and played cricket with him there (I was a leg-break/googly bowler and, I am sorry to say, a poor batsman -- Donald was an outstanding batter and fast bowler) -- he went on to play for Burnley during the 1950s where he performed very well with the bat and occasionally with the ball. Sadly, my best Burnley friend -- Dennis Slater --informed me that Donald died earlier this year.

Thank you for the kind words, mez -- and for the explanation. My mother used to say that life is a learning process -- I learn something new every day!

Welcome back, James. :)

Did you ever manage to find the details of the match in which the "Chinaman" took all ten wickets whilst playing for Burnley?

Thanks, Sparkologist. I was not able to dig up the scorecard, but I did confirm the details: Ellis Achong, Burnley professional, !0 wickets for 71 runs, Burnley vs Todmorden (at Todmorden -- I was there), 4 August 1945.
