a few weeks ago i decided to try to get to Liverpool on public transport.
I like liverpool...so much to see...so much to do.

I set off and caught the Preston bus at 08.20.
This bus got into Preston at 09.20.....the X2 to Southport had gone out just minutes before...and the next bus was 9.45 it is an hour and a quarter to Southport.....so it was late morningwhen we arrived there...then the X2 goes on to Liverpool...another bum numbing ride of two hours.
So I did not get to Liverpool until just a few minutes before 1pm
I had a very quick scoot into M&S for a drink and a butty and got back on the bus.....it was twenty minutes to seven when I walked through our front door....so this recce proved that bus travel to get to Liverpool was ompractical unless you wanted an overnight stay

I could go by train I suppose....would have to change at Preston...and sometimes Southort...and it is not cheap...on the bus I can use my pass and pay for Spindles to have a day rider....so I had to satisfy myself with looking out for day trips.

Moving people had one of these....so I booked for me and the lad. The trip was very popular and it meant that we would not have seats together....but we would get there and be able to have a few hours of exploring...so I had to accept this.

For the two of us it was £22...£17 for me and just a fiver for him because he still counts as a 'child'...even though he has sprouted chin hairs.

I looked forward to the trip all week...thinking of what we might do.
I wanted to do a river cruise, do the Music experience in the Cunard building...visit Matthew Street....see what was on in and around Albert Dock.....all these things were running around in my head....and it was teasing and tormenting me.

We were picked up at 9am on the Matalan Car park...the coach was Lucy and the driver was John.
we made good time down to Liverpool and arrived at the Adelphi Hotel(where we were being dropped off) at 10.45,
We were told that we would be picked up at the same place at 4pm...and to be there or be left!

Now when I have gone to Liverpool before we have always been dropped off at the far side of albert Docks...near the arena.
I know my way around quite well from that drop off.....so it was a bit of a surprise to be dropped off at the top end of the city.

as we were getting off the coach someone from the tourist board was handing out vouchers for the hop on - hop off bus...and aso for the river cruise.
So I was glad I had not been able to book them online.

I shoved the vouchers in my pocket and we set off to walak down to the docks.

The coach had not been able to park there because the road had been closed for a half marathon.

I just hoped that I would remember how to get back to the adelphi.

The pictures will give you just a flavour of our day...I was like a dog at a fair with my camera.....so many smells and only one nose!

To be continued.

I really do get giddy when I am going somewhere like this...it is kind of giddy you used to feel waiting for father Christmas.
I would go back again tomorrow and find something new to take my attention and my interest...there really is so much going on and a city chock full of history.
I felt a bit like Oliver Twist...please sir Can I have some more?

Glad you enjoy my home town, only I personally think it has changed far to much over the years that at times I feel like a stranger when I'm back there.

I am sure that you do.
Not all change is good...and we hanker after what we knew and loved....but I have only been to Liverpool twice(well, no...I lie I went on public transport to see if this was a viable way to get there - it wasn't.....4 hrs to get there and 4 hours to get back) so forgive me...because I know no better.
