She's lost it!

who has?
Well Ma of course.
Last August our local branch of the bank closed and really put the cat among the pigeons.
Ma was beside herself. She didn't want to change banks and she didn't want me to have to haul my carcass to Blackburn(she knows I hate the place with a passion).
Anyway I thought I had found the perfect solution. I opened a current account for Ma.
She has never in her life had a curent account...never had a cheque book, never had a bank card.

I know, I know. You are saying 'how on earth did she manage her financial doings.
The answer is with cash and sometimes sending me with a note to the bank and her savings book(yes, she still has a savings account with a paying in book - all blue leatherette with gold writing on it).

When the bank closed it all had to change.
We did the current account and I sorted out a debit card for her.
She was not a bit keen on the idea of a debit card(even though she has had a Visa card for a long time).
I told her the debit card was like paying with cash...that the money went out of your current account straight away with no faffing around paying the visa bill off.

Anyway on Friday she got the notification that her home insurance was due.
She went to her purse to get out this wonderful debit card...it was not there...it was gone.
She had lost it...or perhaps that isn't quite right...she has mislaid it somewhere.
Well over the weekend she has upended her house trying to find the card.
She was as mad as a wet wasp in a thunderstorm...she said she felt like she was going 'senile'(never..she is the sharpest tool in the box believe me)

I went up today and joined in the search too.
her handbag was upended and all the contents sifted through. The sofa was moved.....we dug down the sides to make sure it wasn't lurking down there.
Nada, nothing, zilch so I have cancelled that card and when I go up to see her tomorrow we will phone the bank and ask for a new one to be sent out to her.

To make sure this does not happen again I have sorted out a card holder...just for her Visa card and her new debit card.
I have told her that if I find any other cards in it I will skelp her hide.

In the meantime I have told her if any bills come in she will have to use the credit card and we will stay solvent that way.

On another topic altogether. I really do believe I am morphing into my mother.
Not that that is a bad thing...except I never really wanted to be anything other than unique.
Why do I say this?
Well, like Ma, I am becoming much less tolerant of change, I am much less tolerant of fools(and there seem to be so many of them about). Much less tolerant of modern life and all the things that that entails(fashions, morals, ethics etc)
I find myself saying things that my mother says...sometimes I catch myself before the words are out...but many times I don't.
Ah well at least i know where my bank card is!

Margaret know exactly what yer saying i give very short shrift to fools, dogooders ect and i;m getting worse by the year seems to me cos those species of dung are increasing.;)
