What a good show it was last night!!! Bits of 80's nostalgia mixed with other people's songs all done brilliantly. Tony Hadley has had lots of publicity in the last year or 2 due to winning that show where ex artistes tried to show that they still had quality. It seems to have boosted his career somewhat and he sang superbly.
Covering some familiar Spandau numbers True, Through the Barricades, Gold, he also did some rather good cover versions including Elvis's Always on my Mind. He had a jovial banter with the audience and the band, and looked like he was having a great time. Carrying slightly more weight than in the 80's he still looked pretty damn good from where I was sitting.
Martin Fry really shone. I'd pretty much forgotten that this guy existed. Not being a huge ABC fan in the 80's I always thought that he looked arrogant, but maybe that look was just the image of the time. This man can really belt out a tune and had the audience rocking. Covering some old ABC classics Tears are not Enough, Poison Arrow, The Look of Love, All of my Heart and the fabulous When Smokey Sings he managed to get everyone dancing and singing along. Also doing some cover versions including a beautiful version of Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle, Martin Fry showed that he still has that star quality.
The pair did some duets together during the night and ended the show with a rousing version of Bowie's Suffragette City. It was a great show with two fantastic voices, this pair will be around for years to come and deservedly so.
