I've stayed off here for a few weeks and I suspect I'm going to regret posting this but thought you might like to know that Burnley's Panopticon has been built.

Just off the A682 at Crown Point, Burnley.

For another view of it someone has posted it onto You Tube already.

I think i prefer that to what we are going to get - a halo - more like a space ship sending signals i want to come home!

I’m stuck for words, but I’ll give it a go. How about Ugly Monstrosity? No! How about ****e? Whatever people think, all I can say is thank **** it’s in Burnley

See hyndburn has sence - thank gawd there no horrible so called art situated in out town & vast money wasn't wasted here.

Well ... hmm, it looks weird .... and the noise it was making on the you tube vid was a little hmm ..... eerie

OMG!!! what a bloody racket it was rather spooky sounding, & why is it a tree it looks nowt like one:eek:

It is the most spooky sound ever, I'll agree! You can't hear it until you get about 30ft away from it. It uses the wind to make the noise and so as you're walking down the path all you can hear is the wind (it's on top of a hill) then as you're walking towards it these noises start coming out of the wind.

I think it is the most beautiful of the sculptures in the series.

The money, as I have said many times, comes from NWDA and not a penny of it from the Council. Private money has also been put into this by the Towneley family and some trusts, who's land it is on.

Just a point though. Whether you like it or not, and aesthetics are very personal, it is getting publicity for Burnley - good publicity at that.

I wouldn't go that far ;) .... It's interesting but far from beautiful ....... and I still wouldn't like owt like that on the top of the coppice. The scenery in the background is lovely and then you've got that thing shoved there spoiling it.

The only publicity I heard was an apology because it was to windy.....:D

It's better than what that area was becoming famous for over the past few years :D
