St Georges Day

happy St George's Day everyone

St George being a turkish man who never once entered England, what a great patron saint we have

i agree it should be a bank holiday if it was you would find that it would be the start of people being more patriotic.
people love a free day off, they could make st georges day a big event though the pc brigade would have something to say on that matter i bet.

I'm Surprised we are still allowed to fly our St.Georges flag in this day and age, it could offend.

Well slinks your probable right, but thats all the more reason to fly the flag anyway:D

You are right we should. We fought ww1+2 so that we could!! But sometimes I think the government forget about these things :(

And yes, I do think we should have a public holiday on St. Georges day. We have little else in this country to celebrate.

Although Gordon Brow has recently changed the rules, making it much easier to fly the cross of St. George from public buildings, as was pointed out in post #4 of this thread.;)

just got back from benidorm and everyone over there
is gearing up for today flags at the ready
costumes to wear there will be some sore heads tomorrow :alright:

my papa usually puts a huge flag up in his garden on St George's day so i have just been next door to ask him why he hasnt put it up this year and he said 'because some nicked my prop so i have nothing to use as a flag pole'

oops i think i'd better give him his prop back :o

The Scots on St. Andrew’s day and the Welsh on St. David’s day, fly their national flags so we English should do the same with pride and to show the BNP that it is our symbol and not theirs.

In fact the BNP should be forced to stop using the cross of St. George as their symbol. I’m sure that there must be a law somewhere that forbids people using the national flags as a symbol for an organisation of some sort.

In the meantime maybe we should consider using the White Ensign as shown in my Avatar.

Donkeys years ago and particularly with the European Catholics they had a tradition of using ‘saints’ days as a sort of second birthday. Anyone called George would have the 23rd April as their “Names Day” and they would receive a card and present from family and friends. This was a church thing to encourage people to use saints names when naming sons.
