Starving children?

Marcus Rashford has lobbied for ‘starving children’ to get free meals during the school holidays.
A recent report has suggested that 23% of reception class children fall into the obese category.....and 35% of year six pupils are obese.

So which is right?
Are children malnourished or are they obese?

Again this is all about parents responsibility to ensure that children grow up eating healthy food.

I was looking at food options for poor families while shopping in Aldi.
Spuds were a quid for a 2kg bag. Three large portobello mushrooms were 49 pence.
A pack of lean minced beef was £2.59 or there was a pack that was close to its sell by date reduced by 30%.carrots(wonky ones) were 59 pence a bag.....onions were 69 pence a bag.
So for less than a fiver you could make a nutritional family meal.....a cottage pie is a filling meal.
I noted that porage oats were 79 pence for a kilogram....how many good filling breakfasts could you make from that.....and healthy ones at that.
So what is the drawback?
Well, I think it might be because it takes effort.
The spuds have to be peeled...so do the carrots and onions.
I would mince the mushrooms and add this to the mince to make it go further.

If a parent is not keen to put in this effort, then it is their children who suffer.
Takeaway grub is not cheap and at least if you cook from scratch you know exactly what has gone into the food....how much salt, you know there is no additional nasty E numbers.

Parents may turn around and say that their children won’t eat it.....and so whose fault is that?
If there is nothing else on offer and the child is hungry then it will eat what is on the plate.

Maybe Marcus could lobby for parents to get cookery lessons and nutritional advice.
Would they take it?
That is another question.
