Superstitions.

Here's the tit.

I wouldn't be so rude as to point out the tat.;)

That's what I call a good looking Tit, pity it isn't a pair. You can't beat a beautiful pair of tits on a bird table all fluffed up and perky like. :D ;)

garinda - i thought u wud've touched a different kinda "wood" rather than ur head if u cudnt find a piece of natural wood around

*L*

i'm not that superstitious but i do sometimes think bad things will happen if i sin - i'm a beleiver of sorts of karma - but then sometimes i think am i doin bad karma or bringing karma to someone who's done bad things

i do worry too when i go to work if i dont get a goodbye kiss from my daughter.

My mum always told me never to bite the head off a jelly baby first.....always start at the legs.......

never did tell me why.........:o

Bite the head of first you wont hear it scream.

When I see a single magpie I say, "Good morning Mr Magpie. How's your wife?" My daughter salutes them. We're as daft as each other.

The salt thing is because it was so precious, in Roman times part of a soldier's pay was in salt - salary. The devil stands behind you if you spill any of this precious stuff so you throw a bit over your shoulder and into his eyes to make him run off. I don't know what he's supposed to do to you if he stays.

Touching wood has something to do with the Spirit of the earth living in trees but I'm a bit vague on that one. I still touch wood though.

Who says, "Bless you", when somebody sneezes? I do. I think it goes back to the days of the Plague, which started with sneezing.

Cutting your nails on Sunday and Friday. My Nana would throw a wobblie when we were kids if we even thought of doing so.

I still can't bring myself to do it even now.

as I was leaving my first real girlfriends house I would always jump over the gate (pathetic, showing off) but sometimes one of her parents would show me to the door and wave me off.. I would open and close the gate and say my goodbyes.. but would wait till they closed the door then jump into the garden and back over the gate!.. wierd but I thought it would bring bad luck if I didn't

Thinking about the strange rituals we have related to religion, I got me a thinking and scrathin' my head about about superstitions.

I'm an atheist.

I also think superstitions are a load of mumbo-jumbo.

Strangely though I still knock on wood, or tap my head if I ain't got no wood, when I don't want to jinx myself.

Looks like I'm a total hypocrite, or is the human nature so fragile that we need these scientifically unproven rituals in our lives to survive?

Where did they originate from?

If you do them, will they perhaps turn into one of those phobias were you have to turn round six times and leave the house backwards, because if you don't you think diaster is waiting round the corner?

What little superstitions do you always do?
I am an Atheist too.

I walk under ladders and ignore all this other stuff.

The explanantion is emotion and conditioning.

I walk under ladders, it's all bollocks. Just emotion & conditioning.

Then why did you post it twice?

For luck.:D

I am definately a big believer in karma, AccyWeb would be a shadow of itself without it.

If someone is working up a ladder I won’t walk under it otherwise I will. That’s common dog not superstition.

The only thing that I believe in is that if I do somebody some wrong then sooner or later someone will do me some wrong. This encourages me to try and treat everyone as I would like to be treated.

Otherwise - Superstition! Bah! Humbug!

I always sing the Magpie song when I see any - but I think that's more down to Tony Bastable than superstition!

I always salute a lone magpie no matter where i am or what im doing or whose around , my kids think im loopy and maybe they could be right but for some strange reason i will always do it

Ah yes, West Ender, but if you respond and say "thank-you" seems a fairy is popped off, and I am rather fond of Tinkerbelle and Garinda, so never do it now.

I didn't know that. I'll try to remember in future. ;)

Question is, if we had to pop one of the fairys off which one would it be. :D

Weak, very weak.:(

Or was that your audition piece for the part of the Dame in this year's Accy Web panto?:D

...see if I was as bad mannered as you, I could have said you should have auditioned for the part of Tom Thumb, because of your diminuative stature.;)

Don't try to out bitch the bitch, run off back to agreeing that football needs to be less sexist...and throw salt over your shoulder and hope my wrath is now sated.
