Tell me this....please.

Well, here we are at the bum end of November...the 'almost' end of the year.
Those of you who read my scribbling know that I make cards.
This is what I have been doing recently...with the emphasis being on Christmas cards.
I have already made in excess of a hundred and I am still designing and making them.
Yesterday I got to thinking of those people who we have lost 'this year
How do we send their family a card with 'Merry Christmas' as a greeting.
We know that for these the season will not be merry at all.
It will be full of sadness and memories of Christmas Days gone by.
A card that says Seasons Greetings doesn't cut it for me either.
That kind of sentiment is for people you really don't know....a kind of 'business greeting' if you like.

So how do you deal with cards to those who are recently bereaved.
And for those of you out there who have been recently bereaved...what kind of greeting do you feel acknowledges your feelings....or do you give it no thought when it comes to cards.

I have made some cards that just have the word 'peace' on them....and some that just say Christmas.....and another card is embossed with the words Peace, hope and light...but wonder how well they will be received.
My own brother is dealing with the fact that he might be sharing his last Christmas with his soulmate....What do I put on their card?

If you can spare the time to leave me your thoughts, I would be very grateful.

This year my cards will be sold to raise money to get Spindleshanks to Borneo.
He is going on a volunteer expedition to do conservation work in the rainforest as part of an extended education project.

Well, I had better be off now....cutting and gluing are calling me.

Everybody i think deals with things as whatevers best for them i reckon, to be honest i would make em just normal, some will be glad to get em, some won't, but those who won't there is no way anyone can ease their grief i think, its summat yeh just gotta come to terms with the best yeh can.

Thank you Cashy.
I value your opinion because I know you have 'been there' so to speak.
And it wasn't just thinking about my own loss....I actually wondered how to deal with it last year....and I sent cards without the Merry Christmas....but that was because it was uncomfortable for me to SEND that kind of greeting knowing that For the recipient Christmas was changed forever.

From my own view, if someone send me a card that says Merry Christmas....it will not trouble me.
I know that Ma won't be here...and of course I miss her.
But, I know that wherever her essence is, she is at home....free of pain and worries.

Yes, it is neutral, but also impersonal.
I have taken to using a die that says 'thinking of you' and added 'at Christmas'...it feels a bit more....well, caring I suppose.
And it is usually true....I am thinking of them.
Anyway, my cards will be sent to St Christopher's School next week....and they will be on sale at the Christmas fair which is to be held from 6 pm on Friday 7th of December.
So if you want one....that's the place to go.
Advert over :D

old school … I was told by my mum back when my dad died back in the 80s that the first Christmas after someone had died that they don't send Christmas cards …. both mum and dad came from northern Ireland … and when mum died the Christmas after I didn't get any from the relatives over there

Jen....I have never heard of that one.
Early in November my cousin ended her life....and I was trying to think of a suitable card to send to her husband....just to,let him know he is in my thoughts.
I know he will not be on his own as he has a sister and an elderly mum....in the end I made a very simple card with the word 'Peace' on the front.
This will be my first Christmas without Ma...it feels strange, but I am not sad. I know that here essence is still with me.
I can hear her in my head(does that make me nuts?).
