I am surprised that nobody seems to have mentioned the discovery of Terylene which seems to have been produced at Broad Oak works. It was discovered during the war (1941) and was shrouded in secrecy until 1946. It is more resilient and hard wearing than Nylon and is also acid resistant.

I didn't know what terylene was till the other day. My friend wanted me to sell a Spurs tie on ebay with wembley 1967 on it... nobody bidded on it :D

My chemistry teacher at school was of of the same opinion and very proud of it. Does anyone remember Mr Bloom?
