The Bogey Hole....

Has everyone got one?
It is the place where you stuff the odds and ends that you feel might come in useful for something, although you aren't quite sure what.

Himself has been going on at me something painful(it almost amounts to harassment or mental cruelty)...to sort out our bogey hole......it is what used to be a wardrobe, built over the top of the stairs when the house was built.

I have been stuffing things in the there for something in excess of ten years.......and it was getting very full and quite scary.

When we came back from shopping this morning, he had another go at me......gently suggesting that, some time this week, I should make a start on discovering what lay in there...and give the old flingo to anything that was not going to be any use for anything.

It must've taken me a good hour to empty the place...only because I kept getting side tracked by the things I found......all the cards sent to me when I retired 10 years ago...and was really too emotional to read at the time....today I read them and I was still overcome by the nice things that people put in their cards...surely they couldn't be talking about me...the carmudgeon, the hater of fuss and flummery.
I know I should take all these to school for the children to cut up and make collages with, but right now I can't.

The dust that was in there really made me sneeze........anyway having got all the stuff out, himself came up and started identifying things that should go in the bin...while I tendered responses why I couldn't possibly throw that away...it had emotional attachments to some long dead relative......'but what are you going to use it for?' he countered. 'If it has been up here for the last ten years and you haven't missed it - then it can be binned'.
So whatever it was went in the bag that was consigned to the bin.
Ah, but.....I came upon a box of scale model prestige cars......himself used to collect these and they used to catch the dust in the living room on every available flat surface......well, wouldn't you just know it! They were different.
I used his own argument against him.....but he wasn't buying. He said that he might give them to Spindleshanks when he gets a bit older.
Anyway, the deed is done........some things got flung, some things got put back......the place isn't anywhere near as full(thanks to all my things getting the whizzo) and it is definitely less dusty and more tidy.
Do I feel righteous....no, there are plenty more places where I have junk hidden that are going to need tackling, but for today I'm done!

I am like you Mrs P, esp if they really mean something to me. My t'other half keeps telling me to get rid but my reply is that I could always get rid of him! ;)

I did think of that...getting rid of him,but to be honest, I don't think I have the heart to train a new one....I certainly don't have the appetite for it.

I have very little junk, not cos i'm tidy though, it all got binned mid 90s,when we moved to Spain Tis pretty expensive moving stuff oer yon, so only what was deemed necessary survived.:D;)

Me as well, was only circumstances that made me move away, I was just gone 50, lost a job i had enjoyed fer 20 odd yrs, to be told at the Blackpool "Joke" Centre that being oer 50 i could only get the minimum wage.:(
