Town Centre Changes

I would imagine that if this is true Bernie, so long as they don't change the outside appearance of the units it wouldn't contravene any listed status, but I'm not totally sure

I'm led to believe that it isn't quite so simple. Cllr Marlene Haworth indicated that they couldn't widen the upper balconies of the Market Hall because of the listed status of the building.

The arcade needs something radical.

It looks terrible, with so many empty units inside.

It should be the jewel in the town's crown.

Perhaps if a newish cafe opens it's second branch in there, it will be.

Similar to the one which isn't owned by the Leader of the Council, no sir no way?

Ya Ken but that's a little different, if you get my drift, the inside balcony may well be covered, as I said in my original post there will probably be some inside structures which be covered, in the case of the balcony I can quite see the point, its like inside but an out side facet which adds to the overall look

There's already a wine bar outside the Market Hall doors.

ooops sorry it's not a bar it's a bench :)

That's the European style plaza.

Sadly, because it's nearly always in the shade, and the wind whistles down through there, the planned al fresco cafes didn't materialise.

Though we do have the wine bar as you say.

If you sit there, you'll always get helpful advice from one of the sommeliers.

Usually telling you that that seat is reserved, for one of the regular clients.

:D

Counted eight empty shops just on one side of Little Blackburn Road yesterday. When are the council going to do something to try and alleviate this problem? The town is a bigger eyesore every time you look round

Problem is that they are too busy pandering to the market hall and forgot theres other equally needed businesses around the town that need encouragement or help. Accy is becoming one huge mess:(

How long before they knock down the town centre and build houses on it?

Thought it was a competition - Market Hall v Town Centre shops - which has got the most vacant premises/stalls:rolleyes:

There is one new shop opening.

Lady Clitheroe's on Union Street.

Says 'High class clothes at bargain prices'.

Let's just hope it's not another Frocky Horror Show.

'A TOWN centre shopping arcade is more than half-empty, leaving just three traders in business.'

'Accrington’s Victorian Arcade has nine empty units after traders left the listed building and one major retailer downgraded from six units to one.'

Fears for future of Accrington's ?deserted? arcade (From This Is Lancashire)
