Tranmere Thread

I followed the match on BBC Text updates. Sounds like we started well with a number of attempts on goal early on and all the possession. Midway through the half I think Tranmere began to claw the possession back.
Great to score early in the second half from a Paddy Madden header and all seemed to be going well!
Luke Butterfield sent off on 63 minutes seemed to change the match completely and Stanley must have gone into survival mode. Seamus came on for Hendo to help the defence. Then in the last minute of added time Josh Woods was red carded too.
In summary three points won but at some cost with the two red cards on top of the red for Matthews last Tuesday at Grimsby.
I would like to know what the length of the bans will be if anyone can enlighten me please.
At least Stanley have shown proper resilience in the last couple of months!

I think Mathews will miss 2 more games, Butterfield misses 3 games, Woods misses 3 games and I think Love will miss at least next 2 games for totting up yellow cards. If someone could confirm all this please? ....And we only had 6 on the bench tonight!

Butterfield won the ball and a bit harsh to have a red! A yellow would a should have been given if any..as for Josh hard to tell if it was his shoulder or are that struck the Tranmere players head.think there keeper should have been given a yellow and a few others in the reaction after.. but a win is a win a d 3pt better off ..

Perhaps Stanley should recall loanees Popoola, Martin and Caton to cover our forthcoming suspended players?

Think Josh deserved his red. Not sure why he was waving his elbow like that. Clumsy at the very least. And heading against the crossbar from under it was a sending-off offense in itself for a professional footballer!

But the red for Butterfield was ridiculous imho. I was surprised that he even got a card.

The goal was a beauty but I did not like the way we dropped deep even before the red. Unnecessary I thought, but we always do that. Sadly.

Heath and Whalley were great and almost carved out a goal each towards the end.

Thanks Crown Grounder. As I thought for the three red cards but didn’t realize Love had clocked up so many points from silly fouls!

From the Beeb match report:

"Nine-man Accrington kept their slim promotion hopes alive with a 1-0 victory at Tranmere to stay within touching distance of the play-off places."

Have to say back in December I wouldn't have put money on seeing the words "Accrington" and "promotion hopes" (slim or otherwise) in the same sentence any time this season!

Shame on me for little faith ....

Just watched a full replay of the Tranmere match on the clubs website. Well, Stanley dominated the first half and should have been 3 or 4 up by half-time in my opinion......second half of course you/we expect the worse.....that we'll rue missing all tat domination and chances. Great goal on the Turnover, initiated by Josh Woods, Heath doing what he does best driving forward and playing a pin-point cross on to Paddy's head for the goal. Brilliant!........Luke's red card was unwarranted, their players reaction got him sent off........we held on well, with the changes made by John and Ged and Madden playing along side Conneeley in mid-field......while still offering a threat on our breaks forward. Josh late on did appear to lead with his arm in the second red card challenge and it was a late challenge, making the refs dismissal. We were unlucky not to extend our lead with the chances we created with 10 men.......only 4 points to safety!

I feel that the Butterfield red was very, very soft, but Josh deserved the red - it was not nice and he appeared to see what he was doing......
