So why are freeview boxes been invented if they are doing away with the ariels ?

Oooh a point but i dont think its the ariels just the analogue signal altho freeview boxes require a good ariel to recieve it.

I told him he should pay for it - TV is a luxury, after all

Not according to the DSS. It is now classed as a necessity.

So does freeview come through your ariel as analogue or digital ...sorry im confussed. I was going to buy another freeview box this xmas for my son as well ....

If your ariel & reception are fine on freeview then you are fine, its just when the ITV digital came out many people were told to get their ariel upgraded.
