It's great having Mum off work this fortnight. l don't feel as guilty, having someone else to play with in all the spare time l have, it's fun.
We've been out to lunch everyday, l've even felt well enough to drive as far as Skipton- wow! We have trawlled shops for treasure and paintings, not to much avail so far, but you live in hope. For a change today we are going out for supper rather than lunch.
My brother has gone away on holiday with his family, Mum was asked to go, but l think she just prefered a rest. We are hoping to go away in September, somewhere now with internet access, just saw l can aggravate Mrs P.!
My brothers business still keeps to the old Accy Wakes weeks for holidays. A week at Whitsuntide, a fortnight in July following Burnley's, and a week in September plus Christmas and the usual bankhoildays. They have tried staggered holidays and staying open, but it is still easier to do this for the time being.
I remember the first time l didn't go away with my family when l was sixteen. Quick count on fingers and toes makes that 1981. In those days the whole area seemed to close down if you were unlucky enough not to be away. All the newsagents used to close. The Lancashire Evening Telegraph was dropped off at certain points and you had to put the money in a box. Only 24 years ago, but l wouldn't like to try that now!
I think people being able to take their holidays when it suits them is a much better system. l noticed yesterday quite a few local schools still haven't broken up yet?
I don't care as long as when l go away l can still do it in a term time. As much as l love children, l do reserve the right not to have to go on holiday with them screaming on the beach or in the pool. Although l do like going on holiday with my Nephew and Niece, as like l was they are perfectly well behaved little people. It's nice some of my genetic material has been passed on to the next generation of my family.
