Well....I have been back from hols for 8 days...and it feels like I never went away!
It was quite a shock to come back and find that Accyweb had moved and not told me......was it something I said......if it was I take it ALL back.
We had a lovely time down in not so sunny North Devon.
The Saturday we travelled down it heaved it down with rain. It was the kind of rain that comes down like stair rods. It dried up a bit by the time we got to Bridgewater, but as we got nearer to the coast the sea mist came in and it was like warm pea soup.
The accommodation was excellent though...and after a quick recce round the house we sashayed off to the camp shop to see what they had in store......we didn't really need anything as we had a lovely complimentary welcome pack...eggs, bacon, bread, milk, cereals tea, coffee, a lovely bottle of wine....some very fine fat pork sausages. No beer though...and the driver needed a beer so we bought some of that and a bit of cake to have with a good cup of tea.
We found some very informative leaflets in the foyer of the reception....and we made plans for the week. Our plans were fairly flexible and depended on the weather.
We visited Ifracombe. My daughters little boy saw the carousel there and wanted to ride, but when he was lifted onto the back of one of the gallopers he took fright and wanted to come off. A compromise was reached and he sat in a dragon carriage quite happpily....and had two goes.
This little boy is not yet three but has mastered the names of several dinosaurs....and talks non stop about them. We thought he would like a trip to Dinosaur World. We set off early one morning so that we could be there just as it opened. It IS best to beat the crowds when you are travelling with 2 push chairs. The leaflet DID say it wasn't suitable for wheel chairs (I thought that was illegal)....and this information should have rung bells in my head, but I think the brain was on holiday too.
It was a lovely sunny morning....and warm too. The tickets were bought and we were directed up to a car park that strictly speaking should have had a ski lift.....it was a real nanny goat brew!
The entry to the park was via millions of steps (OK, OK, maybe there were only thousands) some were fairly graceful and gradual, others were the kind that you need a moutaineers head for heights for.
It was some feat to get both kidlidids down into the park....and on a couple of occasions I did need to have my son in laws help...bless him!
There were other animals as well as the dinosaurs....it was a good job too because the little lad didn't like them one little bit, and howled his head off every time we went anywhere near them. It was a lovely place to visit, but be warned if you go...have three shredded wheat and a pint of Guinness....you'll need all the strength you can muster.
We did the beach thing too.......that was a bit fraught as the little lad wanted to play with the buckets and spades of all the other children....he chased the seagulls....and wasn't a bit keen on paddling in the sea.
We arrived back home last Saturday....and I was keen to get a squizz at what had been going on in Accyweb....only to find that it was GONE.
I really struggled to get into the new place and only managed it just before we moved back home....and it IS good to be back on the real Accyweb.
My baby sister flew in to the UK today from Brisbane. She emigrated four years ago......she is back for a three week visit. Her daughter was only 10 when they left and she REALLY didn't want to go....so this visit is to achieve closure for her. I am sure that my niece would not swap her lovely outdoorsy life in OZ for the life she had in this country.
Well, we'll see how much she misses the sun and the surf eh?
