do people throw bloody bread out to the birds??

i wouldnt mind it the little creatures came for it, but its always the pigeons!!....dirty pooey things!, and it attracts rats and mice!!
do these people know nowt!!????

some people feed the pigeons... then catch them and eat them (cooked of course lol)

Did hear an interview with a lady from the RSPB the other week, wish I could remember everything she said. Bread was the big no, no though as would just blow them up. She did say that, if you do, especially when the young ones are hatched, to throw out very small portions, as they obviously can't cope with large lumps. Also, stuck in mind was the fact that if you throw food out in the morning and still there at lunch, only the rats will finish up eating this.

Remember she suggested Weetabix was a good food for them and seed mixes. After all the RSBP do have an online shopping site themselves to buy bird trays, etc., linked with good advice.

Get annoyed when I see people feeding the ducks, they don't need it .. plenty of food in the water for them.

pmsfl, this thread made me laugh, i had some left over bread this morning and i threw it in the garden for the birds :tongueout lol sorry panther

That's disgusting, with the amount of diseases these have

I worked in the Animal Magic in Burnley for a while and we used to look after some of the pigeons that had been hurt due to barb wiring and such

They are quite nice animals, as in would let you help when they needed it but my god they were soooo dirty, would certainly never go near them without gloves on!

I love birds, they are beautiful and very intelligent animals, but pigeons are just a pest, and certainly do not need feeding!

We put seeds out for the birds...and fat balls too...we do only seem to get the wild brids though.....no pigeons and within minutes of the stuf being put on the wall it is all gone.
Some mornings if we are a little bit behind...the birds are congregated on the wall waiting for their rations.

Sorry to digress a little Panther .. but have been worrying for the last couple of hours... Emamum do not let Ty see this.

Coming back on the M65 at lunch, was about 6 ducklings in the middle lane, they did luckily scurry back to the central reservation, further up was what looked like another group, unfortunately, they had met their maker.

Feel guilty, as maybe should have rung the traffic police, but you always think someone else has done it, don't you. Please take care if you are travelling between Junctions 4/5 .. looks like could be a sort of 'duckling run' for them.

You used to be able to get wild bird seed, the only trouble was that all the young lasses used to eat it:D:eek:

I feed the birds AND feed the ducks :p ....Jack loves helping.
This often means throwing a slice of bread at random-but hey,if he enjoys it i dont care haha

Some strange 'lasses' you knew Jaysay :D

Did you start off the euphenism 'birds' then ?
I worked in the store that used to be the Palace Cinema in Accy, I managed he DIY store upstairs. downstais was made up of consions, one being a pet food stall, and we used to kid the manageress (who was a bit wild) about eating the wild bird seed:D and no I didn't start the euphenism kate, I always respected young ladies and was a perfect gentleman, well thats my story and I'm sticing to it
