Winter and Salads...

don't really go hand in hand do they?

I have kept up with my sensible eating, and my weight loss is now something in the region of 20 pounds...every single ounce a trial...believe me.

For the last month or so I have forsaken the evening meal of salad......I found that I was constantly feeling cold...even when I had had hot meat or a baked spud.
I also noted that the tomatoes tasted of nothing other than water......I like tomatoes and they were the mainstay of the salad...so when they started to taste of little.....the salads got the flick.
Oh and I tried the tomatoes from various suppliers...but none of them were any good.
I really needed that 'stick to the ribs' grub......spud pie(home made, of course)......Cottage pie...crispy potato on top with just a hint of mature Cheddar cheese.........broth...and dumplings.....beef and barley pie...with a light as a feather short crust on top. Corned beef hash with pickled beetroot and red cabbage.

So I have had these warming winter dishes....and I have felt much better...though I have noticed that sometimes I have nodded off after tea.
I have not gained any weight either(well, not so far).

My sweet tooth has been a bit of a problem at times......I have frequently craved something sweet......so I have had an apple...not exciting, but sometimes it has done the trick...and when it hasn't I have given in and had a sliver of Swiss roll(not home made.....if I make cake I feel that I should be able to eat it in great chunks...not good for the waistline at all).
When I have craved chocolate I have had an orange...this has meant that some days I have eaten three or four of the blighters.....but I figure they have kept the colds at bay(I am saying this quietly....I haven't had one this winter).

I will go back to the salads when the tomatoes taste better and when this cold winter comes to an end...but for now, it is hot winter grub for me.
