I had to get up and organised quite early this morning. On a normal day off I get up and lounge around for a couple of hours before getting going, but I had an appointment at 9am.
It was my annual smear appointment, so I don't exactly look forward to it. Not only had I only just got dressed, but I then had to go to the GP's and get undressed. The nurse is really good at my surgery, and I used to do the antenatal clinic there, so they all know me. I have to have annual smears by order of DG, my gynaecologist. Due to lots of biopsies, diathermy and laser treatment over the last 10 years he insists that I am seen yearly. I wouldn't mind but because of all the treatment (which I am grateful for - honest.....) I have very little cervix left, and they always struggle to find it. Today was no exception, but after lots of rooting around on the nurse's part and a bit of morning gymnastics on my part, she managed to get a sample...... I just hope it was sufficient, and normal of course.
DG has now retired, although he is doing some hours part time. I don't know who I would see when he goes completely. I will have to ask the nurses on gynae who they recommend. It's funny how you get used to one person treating you. I have seen DG for years, had examinations and treatment then sat across from him at the Xmas do the day after. I suppose it's like finding a good hairdresser..........
