Stantons

I was hoping to find a thread on here about Stantons.

Am trying to find the years of operation of

Stantons (Beverages) Ltd Accrington

Stanton & C Poole Ltd Oswaldtwistle

Companies House have usefully introduced a new system which gave me 6.3m options to search.

Thank you !

I apologise. I am not a member of any forums so not aware of required etiquette.

My car boot sale purchase yesterday morning was a rather nice flagon. What little research I was able to do online brought me to your excellent forum where I thought I might learn more as Stantons were a local company.

Re: Stantons

You should not have any cold feet this winter then as those flagons were often used as hot water bottles. Their Sarsaparilla was delicious.

While I cannot supply you with the information you require.
The stantons 'Pop Wagon' used to come round our way every Friday evening.
Thye Dandelion and Burdock was delicious as was the sarsaparilla and the ginger beer...and those stone bottles were(as Rowlf says) wonderfull to warm your feet on in the winter.
Now I may be wide of the mark here but if my memory serves me right, the pop was sixpence but the deposit on the bottle was two bob.

My memories would be late 1950's early 1960's

The flagon is in really good condition and the glaze is very much like a 1960s repro one I have from Pearsons of Chesterfield.

The reason I bought it was because on the side it said "Any person refilling or detaining this jar will be prosecuted."

I'm guessing those deposits still made it a cheap hot water bottle !

Yes they certainly did, but you had to watch the rubber seal on the stopper if it was perished the bottle would leak......and you would end up with cold wet feet.

Re: Stantons

The pop wagon (stanton's)died out when the inferior Corona stepped into the market.
That was not a patch on the great stuff from the stone jars.
We only got to drink pop on Saturday night......and we didn't get large glasses of it either.
It was a true treat.
