Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Years ago the Observer gave the impression that this website had been instrumental in winning a campaign to restore the Arndale clock - but nothing ever came of that so whatever is being said now I...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

No "fault" on your part Roy but just a pity that the Observer couldn't at least have named the website and given it credit for the source of the photo. If anyone used one of theirs without reference...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Yep that definitely looks like my original photo. In which case did they get it from the website? Did they ask if they could use it? Or is it taken for granted that any photo on the internet is in...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Any idea who supplied them with the photo because it looks remarkably like one of mine. Click 'The Arndale Clock' in my signature below and you'll see my original.

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Make allowances for the fact that I've not been here for a couple of weeks and the first I saw was the article in the newspaper, so then I looked in here for an update and saw posts which said that...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

I've just briefly come home for a couple of days in the middle of my holidays and seen the story on the front page of the Observer. On first reading the story it sounds like a success for the Clock...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Excuse a slight thread wander while I agree with Bob for a minute there. I was trying to study in the reference library not long ago and a group of kids with (presumably) a teacher were also there...

That'll be a bridge then I suppose.

You do all realise we aren't half doing a lot of threadwandering here don't you?

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Oh now I seem to have started a debate about what constitutes a viaduct! :s_jplol:

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

I was beginning to think must walk with my eyes shut because I've been up there with the dog up to a couple of years ago and didn't see a viaduct. It's been about 2 years since the dog died and I've...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

I shall have to go and have a look. It isn't one of those things no longer there like much of old Accy is it? I was thinking ...... Hollins/Priestley Clough sounds like the old Manchester line long...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

More than one in Accy? I've lived here most of my life and I can only think of the one. Where's the other one?

Burnley's hasn't got a McDonalds next to it or a river and floral roundabout under it...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Agreed. If we succeed with this then we can start to look if there's anything else. Mighty oaks and little acorns and all that.

Tongue firmly in cheek - if Cannon St Baptist Church is up for grabs...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

The land always belonged to the education authority did it not? The fact that nothing had been built there for years lulls people into a possibly false sense of public ownership. I think Doug may...

:) I gotcha! You told him where you would be copying it to?

Yes indeedy BRING BACK OUR CLOCK! After all wasn't it bought by the council originally with OUR money?

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

Slightly off topic (but only slightly) I think P&O used to have something to do with the Arndale once didn't they?

Have you let Andy Plant know that his now defunct clock has got a fan club here...

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

I remember it was not working when I went one day specifically to show someone what it did. Presumably as the creataor was in on the dismantling he would be fully aware of any repairs needed or not....

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

It wouldn't hurt if you asked the Arndale would it? haven't I read on here somewhere that it's now stored in the basement somewhere? Have you ever been down there? It's a very interesting labyrinth.

Re: Campaign To Keep The Arndale Clock

I didn't come to this website until quite a while after this post was originally made. I found out about the clock being removed only when talking to some of the people who were actually removing it!...
