Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

I'm presuming this is a police initiative. But surely as elected members shouldn't the council be speaking to the police and asking them on our behalf why they can't police the centre properly for...

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

Interesting issue from the council meeting this week.

Motion by Cllr Ken Moss who wants fixed penalty notices of up to £1,000 for dog fouling. Support from Labour colleagues, but currently top...

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

These situations just don't happen in Accrington, you're making it up. They couldn't possibly have been going to Abbey St either because there is nowhere on there thats of any use to them whatsoever....

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

In fairness I suspect what the common people know is not the same as what councillors get told by a person in a paid position. Maybe having been made to look foolish the councillors concerned may...

Usually a different person on the bench every week up there at the moment, I'll put your name down :D

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

And once again it's worth considering what makes other town centres more hospitable. It's not just the facilites, it's the fact they don't have drop in centres for the deadbeats as part of the town...

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

Wonder if they can find some local ones, the Scottish ones last year seemed to have better agents than Aldo

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

So is it a local council decision or a Lancashire County Council decision to demolish Abbey St ?;)

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

In fairness as Neil said he is the only one attempting to answer the question, I can only assume from the answers given I suggest he is only telling us what he has been told and is not directly...

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

Like I said the story in the LT was a load of bull, and I don't think the councillors really should have defended the decision

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

They are all sat on an empty market stall this afternoon, presumably they will take all them away soon. At least it will make space for the bus station

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

I might just be a Hyndburn citizen who has concerns how my council tax is spent ;)

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

The Town Centre manager is a he, and is not a politician. It's a full time position. Did you not know we had one ;)

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

Load of twaddle, they had no influence whatsoever, the decision was made by the Town Centre Manager

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

To the best of my knowledge it wasn't an Hyndburn Councillor, which makes it even more ludicrous that the quote attributed to or made by Clare in the LT is misleading

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

Correct, they do. Of course if the council is to be consistent they will have to remove those benches. Or maybe the council as such didn't make the decision ;)

Re: HBC have taken away the benches from outside the market

It was a no-alchohol zone when the Tories were in charge too, they did nothing either. People can argue it's a police issue but surely the council whoever is in charge should be pressing the police...
