could any of you history buffs out there help me out as I am trying to trace the connection between my mother in law and this photo.She came from Ripon but used to stay with relatives in Lancashire

Sergeant Joseph Robert KAY 5689. 1st Battalion East Lancs.
There is a Joseph KAY in the East Lancs, on the Clayton le Moors R-O-H at 79 Barnes St.
No proof yet, if they are the same man.
There was a list in the A.O. & T., of returning P.O.W.'s, in January 1919 his name is not amongst them.
Have you a picture of him that you could post on the list.
Are you sure its Jennelager and not Sennelager.
