New poser

Been searching through the British Army Service Records, for 11th Battalion East Lancs, Just put Accrington in the search and up came this.
He is a Russian and changed his name to De Rose.
His papers show he lived in Cassara Cottage Accrington.
Never heard of it.

Re: New poser

This must be the father of the world-famous artist Gerard de Rose who has had a lot of mentions on this forum. I seem to think that he lived with his parents somewhere around Oxford St/Ellison St. I suspect they will be on the 1911 census.

Re: New poser

This is how Carrara Cottage looked until about 12 months ago. Its on the corner of Oxford Street, almost facing where Daltons printers are.

Actually if you look on Google Streetview the red painted building in the photo is on Hindle Street. Carrara Cottage adjoins it round the corner on Oxford Street and you will see the gateposts carved with the house name. The house looks rather smart on Streetview - appears to have just had new windows.
