Re: The Pubs of Accrington

Little Street runs between Blackburn Road and joins Willows Lane. There is a sign at the bottom of Little Street which says 'Little Street, leading to Willows Lane'. Willows Lane itself turns right by the petrol station and joins onto Brunswick terrace. The one which is marked running along the back of Tommy Blanks is just a back street and I think it is that which is wrongly named.
I remember little Street because I once delivered some building materials to the corner house and nobody knew where it was.

Dale Street is correctly named but I am not sure where Dale Street Club was on there. I
think it was where it joins onto Lower Antley Street but needs confirming.

Have I put the junction in the right place - I know there was a shop and maybe even a chippy there back in the last ice age.

Thanks for adding them it is so much easier that trying to explain where they are.

Re: The Pubs of Accrington

Was there another pub called the Crown (known as the Little Crown)?

I seem to think that was up Church St, just past Barnes Furniture n before the Ritz Cinema? if memorys correct. The big crown, one of me locals in 60s was on Blackburn Rd next to Joe Morts Doorway, also a crown on Whalley Rd which Accrington Stanley now own.

Re: The Pubs of Accrington

Please put them on where you think they were as I can easily move them afterwards if they end up in the wrong village

Morts was before my time, I am from the Mary's Music era but if memory works, wasn't that Funnies or something similar at one time?

Was there a 'venue' over the top of Catteralls fruit place, on Broadway, at one time?
Again, that was before my time too so have no memories of such dens of entertainment.

Yep Funnies it became, which was one hell of a place. Did disco yon fer one night n they wanted me to stay on regular, i declined, valued me gear too much. There was a disco oer Catlows fruit n veg the doorway was on Whalley Rd.

Re: The Pubs of Accrington

There was also a great place called the "Cavern" which was on Castle St, was only open a few years but they got some great artists to appear. that would be mid to late 60s.

Accy Disco over Catlows only sold soft drinks (although they played some great records!), so not relevant for this map.

Re: The Pubs of Accrington

Any known drinking venue should be added to the map I suppose, if we are documenting all of them in Accy. Perhaps we should add Church, Ossy and Clayton as well seeing that they were on the route of some classic pub crawls.

I hope we can gather photos of all the pubs as they were and what the area looks like now. Getting pictures of what the areas look like now shouldn't be a problem and I would do it myself if I was a bit nearer.

It could make for a great Accyweb outing if you take some tins and drink a 'small' toast at each venue. There are now 72 venues that should keep even the most ardent drinkers in toasts for a weekend.

Thanks to all who have added pubs - I will sort out the open/closed status tomorrow.

We could mark it with a Pepsi bottle but then we would have to mark the Irn Bru stall in the market hall and who knows where it would end.

No Wellingtons been n Italian restaurant fer years, n Stag i doubt will ever reopen as a pub. also the Bridge Inn next door virtually to the Wellington will never reopen as a pub in my opinion.

Re: The Pubs of Accrington

Morcambe EP, just one problem- if you open up a picture on the map you can't close it, you have to come out of the site.Could be a problem when you get photos of the pubs up. Or am I missing something as usual?
Hyndburn Park School looks just the same- took me straight back to 1945!
I'm sure they're not all on yet but it's astonishing how many pubs there were- I suppose working down the pit or in a mill left you with a savage thirst, all that dust. If you needed an excuse!
