North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe=6.

Olympic flag =5 rings.

I would have sat in the leather chair and argued my point until Magnus gave in and awarded me my point. It's to do with Australasia not being counted as a continent when the modern games were founded in 1896. Although most people now count Antartica as a continent, thus making seven.

You mean you would have bullied him into submission. Read it again muppet, I said Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe

I would argue that the answer I alluded too was correct Mrs Knight. I expect you to verify the fact with the Olympic Committee and send me lots of Ackers in compensation.

When the modern Olympics were founded and the flag was designed, the 'Americas' as you call them were counted as two continents, as they still are.

Bullied Magnus? No, just made him see I was right when I know I am.:)

“he Olympic flag has five interlocking rings (blue, yellow, black, green, and red) on a white background. The rings of the Olympic flag represent the five parts of the world that were joined together in the Olympic movement: Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe. Pierre de Fredy, Baron de Coubertin (1863-1937), a French educator and sportsman, revived the Olympic Games in 1896; the all-male 1896 games were held in Athens, Greece. Baron de Coubertin designed the Olympic flag in 1913-1914. The Olympic flag was first used in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium. The Olympic flag is paraded during the opening ceremony of each Olympic Games. This ceremony adds an additional layer of symbolism to the Olympic flag. Traditionally, eight people carry in the Olympic flag. Five of these Olympic flag bearers represent the continents, while the other three Olympic flag bearers stand for the Olympic ideals of sport, environment, and culture. At the end of an Olympics, the mayor of the host-city presents the Olympic flag to the mayor of the next host-city. The Olympic flag will remain in the town hall of the next host-city until the next Olympic Games, four years later. You can buy the Olympic flag at many websites. Some also have the Olympic flag for different countries. Most people easily recognize the Olympic flag, because of its design aspects.”

The Olympic flag is simple, yet symbolic.

Pierre de Coubertin is said to have found the original Olympic symbol engraved on an altar-stone unearthed at Delphi. It has been used at least since Athens 1906 to symbolize the five Olympic continents.
When Pierre de Coubertin in 1913 designed a flag for the 1914 Paris Congress of the Olympic Movement, celebrating the movements twentieth anniversary, naturally he chose the Olympic symbol. For the colours he decided to use the colours of the flags of all countries that were part of the Olympic Movement, six colours in all: White for the cloth and Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black for the rings. The congress was so taken with this design that it adopted it as the flag for the Olympic Movement.

Please note the use of the term five Olympic 'continents'. This was taken from the offical Olympic website.

I rest my case and graciously accept my point.:)
