Re: Global trivia quiz.

Although the last six month game had ended, you could still play every six hours to practice.

It was supposed to start today, the first of March, but when you try to play it now says starts next Monday morning.

It's kept me sane for the last six months, as well as keeping my wrist supple. God knows how I'm going to fill my time until Monday, and I have no idea how I'm going to exercise my wrist.

Hey fellow GC players. Do any of you consistently play the bonus "impossible" questions? I just figured out it goes against the average score! I thought it just added a bit to your general advancement but did not affect the average tally.

Since I only usually get ~ 6-7 right, is it really worth doing?

I played the bonus game for a couple of months, but soon realised that my average score was being brought down, so I'm not doing it for this session.:)

Is the playing time the same, or has it been brought forward an hour? I can never tell, because before it used to say next game starts in 1 hour, when it had already started.

Good luck everyone.

Re: Global trivia quiz.

I always had a go at the impossible i was lucky if i got above 5 in that! thats why i was bragging when i hit 2nd spot!!! lol

By the way ive just checked my emails and look what i found:

So far you have played 0 of 70,000 quizzes and scored 18013 points.
You are ranked #321 of the 10,000 players in your class (class 98).

LancYorkYankee 07-03-2007 18:30

Re: Global trivia quiz.

Although the impossible does crush the average, I'm playing it as even when I get my usual 5 or 6 right it still adds a point or two to your overall score. At least at the lower levels.

You guys are all playing the Brain Twist bonus too right? That adds ALOT to your score with no time limits. It is alos quite challenging!

Having my broadband connection has in deed knock my times just about in half. So I got that going for me!

I'm rarely very consistent with Regional Trivia. I enjoy the Global Trivia alot more being able to pick favored categories. I have been a bit discourage by the repetitivness of some of the questions though. I now see how some of these fast scores are had.

I've got to the point at just looking at the answers an knowing what the right one is. It is now more of a speed challenge then trivia challenge. I believe the questions will get more varied as one climbs up the ladder!

LancYorkYankee is doing amazingly well in the Global Challenge, and is top of the Lancashire score board, beating the pants off Polly and Lucky Pierre...and me!

Just one question though. If you are coming over to the UK in May, are you looking for a trans-Atlantic flight that is less than eight hours, so you don't have to miss playing a session?:D

Re: Global trivia quiz.

I have been thinking about how that'll work out. Maybe have to pop on in your place to play. It is amazing how much having broadband has improved my scores. I had thought my times were double on dial-up and that is about how it's been working out.

It's rather interesting That although my scores look high in the Lancashire section, I'm not even in the top 15 in the Classical music Mensa team thing. I think it shows the clear advantage of the bit of American bias.

I find it kinda discouraging how often certain questions repeat. I can sometimes run a whole quiz by only looking at the answers, especially in animals and religion! Certainly not in Science and technology though!:D

I'd hate to think of planning my whole England trip around the stupid trivia stuff. However, since me bruv brought it up, can you supply a mapping of places I can play from London to Manchester? LOLLOLLOL

You'll be very welcome to play here big Bro.

Though I do understand now the problems about logging in and out now. Re: Global trivia quiz.

Just received this kind of amusing challenge of ancestry on the Global Trivia site. It's from a 14 year old girl from Clitheroe. Should anyone over there happen to know this young lady, please give her a thorough thrashing, with love, from me!:p My response to her follows.

Can I just ask how, if you were born in the USA and you live in the USA, you could possibly be From Lancashire. Just because your parents are from our County does not mean that you are. Sorry if i seem rude but I just cant see how you could even be classed as British!

LouiseGender:FemaleLocation:clitheroe Lancashire UK Hobbies:Stuff-animals,reading, computers, sports, just general random stuffComments:Ello, Louise is my name i am 14 and hope i hav a large enough IQ to actually get one right on these quizzes (incidentally my IQ is 136)

The tone of your note was certainly somewhat rude (IMO). You have a legitimate question but to challenge me as some diabological Lancashire wannabe is kinda excessive. However, here is my response.

First, as far as any information you have about me, I have never claimed that my parents were from Lancashire. They are not. Heck, I've never even claimed to be British (as far as you know)!

I was invited to play Global Trivia by some very good friends from Lancashire. I first started playing on the Virginia locality but wanted to play with/against my Lancashire peers. I don't believe there is anything wrong with this. Heck, I certainly wouldn't put Virginia as where I'm from if I was trying to hide anything.

I hope this satisfies your curiosity. Should you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to write me back. Finally, I'm a memeber of a website over there called Accyweb. There are alot of great people from all over Lancashire on that site and you may find it of some interest!

Cheers!
Mr. Atkin

Well, I took the temporary plunge into Gold Membership. Mailnly thought it well worth the $20 for the entertainment Funtrivia has been.

However, getting pretty burned out from playing all kinds of different quizzes, challenges, crosswords. I find alot of my play is done almost zombyish and my times and scores have suffered a bit. I've been only playing some i.e. Regional, Obscure, World to build up my trivia points. Being on a team has made it a bit more competitive. The Team is very nice and freindly, I just find myself trying to help the team by playing ALOT!

Hey Rindy, found it very ironic that you "lost" your computer 2 days ago and then mine went bust the next day. What's the chance of that happening? Ya think the Clitheroe "twins" have cursed us?

At least the broadband connection works on this old Gateway. Finding a bit slower times though. In a way, I was hoping it was no computers for a few days. All this playing is starting to wear me out!

It was like a little holiday, not having to play every eight hours, but somehow I've gone up to third in Lancashire...though I'll still never catch you!

I'm thinking of switching out of Lancashire and getting into the Virginia grouping. More where I belong. I definitely have an American advantage in History and a bit ib General. Not sure if some of the other cats. are heavily leaned American or not.

It's really funny how some days I'll be at the top in the Lancashire group and not even make any in the top of my team group. And no, I'm not afraid of the "Clitheroe twins:eek:!" (well maybe just a little!) :p !

Now that your gold I'll still get to see ya more throughout the boards. Most of the rest of Accyweb kinda farted out on it all anyhoo.

It's nice to see so many Accywebbers getting into the Global Trivia. Welcome to ALL!

How about identifying yourselves (when name is different then your Accyweb tag) and give a bit on your favorites categories and/or trivia games?

As is somewhat obvious, I enjoy the religion, animal, and history categories. I enjoy playing the hard hourly games when it's a subject I know. I get killed in the television, humanities, geography, etc.

Above all, it's amazing how much you can learn by playing eh?

Its called cheating,You have 3 or 4 user names, then play the quiz and write down the answers like 1a,2d,3c etc.Quite often the same set of questions will come up in the same order.

It is possible to do it without cheating. Although never that quick (yet), I've got 15/15 in 39 seconds, and 10/10 in 19 seconds...and I'm dexterously disabled.;)

Harwood Red watched me play once, and will confirm that I read and scroll quite quickly.

Some idiots may cheat, but who are they cheating besides themselves? Sad really.

Know what you mean garinda,i am sure most of the quick times are genuine.Once though i saw somebody had got 10 right in 9 secs and that got me slightly suspicious! Think my best is 10 in 22 secs so i have quite a way to go yet.

A lot of questions are repeats of the hourly games, which means you don't need to read the whole question.

I bet the 10-15 seconders are real geeks.:D

I would think the funtrivia folks would be able to find out it someone was cheating like that. My understanding from my team message boards is many people are caught and banned from playing. It can be frustrating when you "hit on all cylinders" and get 15 out of 15 in like 40 seconds and only come in ~7 - 8th place.

My fastest is most always in Religion. As Rindy said, many questions are repeats but better yet, the questions are short. I hate having to spend precious time reading throughh a multi-sentenced question!

Norwich Stanley, are you playing in Global? What name are you under?

Didnt realise you could keep eye on fellow accywebbers, although i think i remember seeing you or rindy in the top 50 on 'impossible'.My son Jake is 13.

Re: Global trivia quiz.

Yeah, just click on a name and it'll show their info. page. After that the name should be highlighted in any of the quizzes where they make it onto the top lists! Good luck to both of you!

I'm curious as to how many Accywebbers have played, or are playing, the "new" knockout game? This is my first week and I know Luckypierre has played a number of contests.

I encourage you guys to give it a try. It's one on one competition with the winner advanceing and the non-winner going home! Fastest 20 questions each match!

Brian

Oh forgot to mention, new players play against new players to give us a more fair chance. I'm currently in the #122 game if you care to see how it's set up.

My friend in Gran Canaria is playing it, and says it's fun.

Might give it a go next week.:)

Re: Global trivia quiz.

I'm glad to hear that Gary. I had avoided it as I didn't want to get into yet another trivia game. This is quite different and has a much more even handed competition to it. You don't know untill the next morning who the winner is. I also found myself scouting out the competition as to quiz ratings or GC ratings to know how fast I should play.

I'm so glad this month, and the GC, is coming to an end. Next month I'm gonna cut back alot . . . okay, at least that's the plan!

Aw play away Norwich. We're all in this together! And yes, I had to hear Cinnyose all last month trying to stay ahead of you (although there are a couple of others that she REALLY wants to beat on a daily basis!;):p).

I was kinda afraid Cindy might be up against Rindy on her first go round. Oye these little family squabbles! hey just noticed, no trolling in here eh? Ah the peaceful bliss, shhhhhhhhhhh, let's keep this secret safe spot to ourselves!

Oh well i'm out! lost by an amazing 2 secs.Just have to concentrate on helping Jake now.If he wins today the person who he would probably meet on Thursday scored 1870,which is 20 in 130secs or 19 in 30secs,so he could be following me out!
