Re: Bad Pub Guide
Can anyone tell me the name of the Pub by Church Kirk - I used to go in there with my Dad after watching cricket at West End, walked back along the canal. Best pint of Thwaites i can remember - there was a stream flowing through the cellar and the sacks were draped over the barrels and into the stream - the beer was so cold.
There was also a Duttons pub further down - about half way to the Queens. |
Re: Bad Pub Guide
Thorn, the one half way to the Queens is the cross guns

Re: Bad Pub Guide
Thanks KSH, I knew it was the wrong thread but thought that if you all knew the bad Pubs you would know the good ones too

Re: Bad Pub Guide
The brewery (Thwaites) must think these are bad pubs cos they're sellin 'em
Accrington: The Adelphi, Avenue Parade. Blackburn: The Plane Tree, Whalley Old Road; Sportsman’s Arms, Shear Brow; Gibraltar, Gibraltar Street. Colne: The Commercial Hotel, Skipton Road. Darwen: The Mill Gap, Bolton Road; The George, Bolton Road. Padiham: The Victoria Hotel, Burnley Road. Eight Thwaites pubs in East Lancashire put up for sale (From Lancashire Telegraph) |

and they would be correct , what a sh1t hole that place has become it used to be a great pub with a mix of allsorts and good live entertainment when it was on |
Re: Bad Pub Guide
The Hyndburn Bridge. Popped in there for a teatime pint with a mate of mine after a full day doing the accounts and it was diabolical. The pub and furnishings, although not being in bad repair, just screamed out of some punters and something to make it inviting. Lighting the log fires is a surefire winner. The beer wasn't kept properly and the landlord seemed not to want our custom. We left fairly quickly.
Now The Royal in Great Harwood.....proper pub! |
Re: Bad Pub Guide
I can't remember the last time i went to a 'good pub'. Cheap alcohol in shops don't help... whatever happened to community socialising??
