Does anyone know/remember the 2 shops on Union Street where Shaw's Amusments are now:confused:;),

What shops where they?:confused::confused:?.

Health food shop n Olympus cafe. the pub hes on about was the Astronaut further down.

you are probably thinking Sidewalk 54( or was it 56? They had one in BUrnley as well, near CAts Whiskers/Ritzys) ... Went in there a few times myself in late 80/early 90s

It changed from Astronaut to Sidewalk 54/56 in the eighties, used to frequent the Astronaut ever Saturday night in the mid seventies, I actually worked on the block when they were built in 62/63 by Mullen and Durkin's from Burnley, Towneley's did all the joinery on them

wasn't it "Faces" for a time before Sidewalk? I have recollection of yellow sign with it written on, seen to recall seeing it when I was a nipper sat on the wall with my Dad waiting for teh "Ladies" by the weird circular toilets that used to be opposite...

Before being the Astronaut etc, wasn't one of the shops Wood's tobacconists? Nobody has mentioned the British Legion club.

They were towards the end of union street Bob, Broadway end, I know the club was still there well after the new shops were built as was the tobacconists too

The Olympus was owned and run by my mates husband, i used to work there

I remember shopping there - I think it was C & M stores -or something similar (using two initial letters).

They even had an online shopping facility and once delivered my order in person(because I lived local)

The shop closed after the till was robbed twice in one year - sad really, because he gave good advice about the products he sold.
