I had the unfortunate experiance to switch on to this show yesterday evening, for the very first (and last) time; I am absolutely amazed to see that 201 postings have been made on this drivel. Many years ago there was a programme called "Opportunity Knocks" and from what I can see the X factor follows a similar format of allowing the public to vote on various acts. With Opportunity Knocks, however, most of the contestants did have some degree of talent; many played a musical instument. In not one instance last night did I see anyone with guitar, piano or even spoons - every turn was no more than a glorified Karioke sing along, by people with the vocal range of a cat under torture. Now I find that one of these characters maybe from Accy. Please, let this not be true..let us maintain some standards for our town.

The Cranberries haven't been in the charts for years. Diana is unique at the moment. There is no-one else currently sounding like her.

Everyone could be compared to someone if you go back.

No-one begrudged Leona Lewis when she was compared to Whitney Houston.

We'll have to have a range of shoes called the Lucy Jordans.:D

Opportunity Knocks had the clap-o-meter.
It was probably having the clap that made old Teabag like that programme more.

Its been announced that the winners song is going to be Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Diana sung this at boot camp, but, even though I want Diana to win, I think that all the contestants still in would be able to do their own take on it. I'd especially like to here a rock ballad version of it by Ruth (whos my 2nd favourite after Diana)

Re: X...

I'm now reading it may not be "Hallelujah" some sources are saying its going to be "Born To Try" originally done by Delta Goodrem, which would fit better with the X Factor winners song "mould" but Simon Cowell has been associated with "Hallelujah" a few times this year it was sung a number of times on American Idol, it was on the boot camp set list and its on Il Divo's album.

I'd prefer Hallelujah though, as I love the song.

No she isn't.

Though she will be giving a masterclass in how to shave a tuppence.

Loved Diana's second REM song, the first was dire. Hopefully she'll make it through to next week, and be able to sing songs more suited to her voice. A voice I've decided sounds like a young Cilla, in that it's very nasal, and comes from the back of her throat. That must be why I like her, as I love early Cilla.:mosher:

Alexandra and Ruth were amazing too, but won't be getting my votes.:D

That's what I don't like about Diana. To me she sounds like Cilla on Speed (crossed with Little Richard) and I thought Harry Hill had it just right, on TV Burps last week, when he said she did a Kenneth Williams impression. It's a shame because, underneath all the gimmicks, there is a good voice.

P.S. Laura's voted for Oggin again. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins as all the little girls are in love with him. :D

Yup. Ruth is like the love child of Sinitta and Terri, but with bigger marraccas, which Simon seems to want to shake.:D

I did fear for Diana's position in the show this week, and after the negative comments from the panel, this seemed to be confirmed.

Nothing to do with the song choices, or her performance.

More to do with the public backing from the leader of H.B.C.

I could feel a backlash brewing.:D

Not for ever I suspect, she was the only one with the 'X' Factor .. something different, instantly recognisable and completely watchable. She is young enough to be snapped up by a producer, so watch this space.

The others well, to me, totally zzzzzzz:-

Alex : Although good vocally, has nothing special to offer other than what past singers have .. too many notes of Whitney Houston, drama of Shirley Bassey and technical monotony of Barbra Streisand .. totally boring. Would go and put the kettle on whilst she is performing.

Eonogh : Please will someone hand him a toilet roll after he has passed what appears to have been impacted ... a smile would help. Putting a puggy faced teenager singing sexy songs to glamorous dancers was a complete turn off .. almost 'ahem'

JLS: Will probably be handed a good song at the end of the day, but nothing 'X' for me with them. Ha ha that topple he did tonight was hilarious

Anyway, that's what I feel .. have only watched the last four broadcasts .. not interested at all now.

I think ITV fixed the result to save themselves some embarrasment. Each finalist needs a home town for the final to have the audience participation. As Diana can't actually make her mind up which town it is they didn't know where to book a room :D

If she'd have made the final she'd have performed in front of Blackburn Town Hall on Monday afternoon.

I'm with Lindsay Ormerod here regarding Diana. I didn't see the show tonight as I was upstairs wrapping Xmas presents (eeeaaaarrrrgh! what a job!) until after the voting but I wasn't sorry to see her go. Could have done without Oggin blubbing all over her but I have heard they are an "item", much to our Laura's disgust. ;)

I think JLS will win, though I think Alexandra ought to, but Nik thinks Oggin will. We'll see. :)

I've never been attracted to the obvious.

One person's talentless bimbo, is another's torch song heroine.

She's up there with Nico, Marianne, and Cilla in my book.:)

I agree. What a disappointment that she's gone. :(

I was looking forward to the concert in King William street on Monday.....I was considering going.

There's no rubbish left, it's all down to personal preference now.

Alexandra has a fab voice, too similar to Leona Lewis but there's nothing she can do about that.

Eoghan and JLS were both on good form tonight but I can take or leave them really.

Hee hee.....did you see the state of Eoghan when Diana went? :D

You'd have thought she'd died, not just been voted off the x factor.

That performance certainly added fuel to the rumours about the two of them.

I know the Guardian's not known for it's cutting edge fashion editorials, but it might be time to take a look at the broader picture, when it comes to what's hot, and what's not, in the world of couture.

Let's not forget that it's not always the winner of the battle, who wins the war.

Steve Bumstein, Mick McManus, and last year's winner Krankie Jr., aren't exactly still hot.

Whilst other losers, like lil Ray Quin, and Big Brenda have gone on to have rave reviews in the West End, and Riddy's album looks like it's going to storm the Christmas charts.

Poor Skippy hasn't said much recently.

I can't remember when I was more uninterested in the x-factor results!

After last year when Rhydian lost to Leon I don't think it's always the best who wins.

The Irish vote could win it for Eggnog, just like the Scottish vote did for Leon. Patriotic to an idiotic level.

I just wish Accrington was larger, then Diana would have made it:mosher:

He'll probably get the Scottish and Welsh votes as well.

That's easy for you to say. You will not have to placate my 9 year old granddaughter, tomorrow, when she finds out her hero has been discarded. :D

I couldn`t agree more...............:D:D:D Whitney who......?

Re: X...

Alexandra deserved to win tonight, though I would still have prefered an all girl final, with either Laura, Ruth, or of course Diana.

Diana's version of Hallelujah is still the best though. Second only to Mr Gloom himself, Leonard Cohen's.

YouTube - Diana Vickers singing Hallelujah at bootcamp :)

14 min to download time..............Garinda , have you heard the Jeff Buckly version.....?

Er...yes, but after Diana, I prefer Leonard Cohen's original version.;)

Re: X...

Alexandra can sing, but she just doesn't connect with me. No goose bumps, nothing.

I did like her a bit more tonight because she's turning into a right little diva, unable to even speak to poor Dermot.

I'd pay to see her in a theatre production of Dream Girls, but I'm unlikely ever to buy her music.

Exactly Garinda .... No Xfactor. Leaves me cold.

Only watched the bit where they were singing with the professionals .. the gap was larger than the Grand Canyon.
