Re: Accyweb problems

I don’t know what it is but accyweb isn’t the only forums with these problems. I myself believe that there is a problem with sever 2, the sever that accyweb and other forms belong to. Others from other forums have been reporting similar strange occurrences.

Well I think it’s sever 2.

Re: Accyweb problems

It's not the only forum to be having problems.
I think someone let the server run out of diesel and it's dragged up all the sediment from the tank so when you click send it sticks a bit.
if you copy the post, then press send and when it sticks you click on go on the adress bar, it usually posts, but if it doesn't you can repaste it in again.

I was having a pint with Roy the other day
I dont know if i should be saying this but...
AccringtonWeb is moving to its own server very soon and will be local so will be much faster
Roy know's the problems on here
dont worry Roy is about and working hard ,
as for the double posts there is a program in place that should stop this but for some reason is not working but Roy is aware of it and it will be sorted shortley.
I hope this helps just be patiant and all will be sorted soon.:)

There's a new forum version out but it's in beta stage at the moment. Think all the problems would be best left until this version goes final and just go for the full upgrade. Wont be long until it's released, and it's amazing! I have it on my GR8 Britain site.

Mods can be added easily after that.

I've noticed problems in there, such as uploading images twice, just like double posting.
Problem is, is that both images have identical titles making it difficult in removing one as by deleting one you automatically delete the other.
You can actually upload image with the same title and under normal circumstances the software will slightly modify the duplicated titles by adding a “1” or “2” to the title.

As I said before there are other forum administrators all reporting similar problems to that we are experiencing here and they are all on server 2.

Cheers Len,
I've not had any trouble in there up to tonight, I tried looking at the latest uploads and just couldn't get to view them, it kept going to a blank screen.

Well. the duplicates are mostly people clicking send again because it sticks. If you copy it before you send, send it once, then click on the links at the top in the middle of the menu, feedback suggestions and help on here, it usually takes you up a level, and you'll find your post has sent. and yes less, agree, we have to make the best of the situation.

I meant that it may be best to just wait for the new forum version and then go for a compete fresh install on the new server.

Mis-connections and timeouts when executing a command can cause db errors and faults, resulting in your software behaving weird over time.

I'm sure Roy will sort it once he's able to do so.

Re: Accyweb problems

I echo in a fashion what Less was tying to point out, I think.
I know we all expect perfection but unfortunatly because this isn’t some government/ council run site ( loads of tax payers money) I believe we aren’t far from it, that is, thanks to Roy, his efforts and abilities and to be honest here I’m being conservative because I really don’t want to blow his trumpet. Lets give the bloke a break. By all means list the problems were having because they are actually helpful but stop expecting to much as money doesn’t grow on trees.
Don't forgrt, to you and I the forums are free, just think about that.

Out of curiosity does anyone know how much it would costs to own, run and maintain a sever? But don’t answer this as it’s off topic.

I’ve had a few beers to night and tomorrow I’ll wish I hadn’t posted and just gone sreight to bed. :D
Sorry.

KIPAX 11-06-2006 08:42

Re: Accyweb problems

ONE PERSON mentioned Roy.. the rest are listing problems... in fact I doubt the one person mentioning Roy was in the wrong... No one is having a go at Roy so why is a moderator telling us to give him a break?

Lets get it clear shall we... IF we have problems with the site. Are we allowed to list those problems in feedback or not (non of us are attacking roy so dont use that excuse)

If this thread was people attacking Roy I would agree with you Len.. I would have nowt to do with it and I would defend Roy to the hilt.... but it isn't.. its people listing problems so either you and Less should get off your high horses and let us use this section exactly for the reason it was made or you should get rid of this section and make it a rule that your not allowed to say whats wrong.

One or the other :)

Len 11-06-2006 10:02

Re: Accyweb problems

I knew I would regret posting. Cheers Hehe

No I’m not on my high horse not in anyway. I’m just trying to say give it a little time and hopefully it will get sorted.
I’m not trying to suggest that everyone is attacking Roy because they aren’t and I’m sorry that it came across that way. My comment “give the bloke a break” is obviously missed placed.
By all means list the problems that we’re having here, as we are doing because that’s what this section is for.
I suppose if this site was owned and run by some big organisation then maybe everything would be put right instantly but it’s not.

Anyway lets keep this thread as is… for listing the problems we’re having as I have obviously now started something by posting, Sorry.

:)

Well I’ve been out to day and I’ve met some very nice people and chances are I’m going to regret having posted again. But.. really we do not want to come across as telling people off, well not all the time but what has to be done has to be done, we are not novelists , writers etc and often it’s difficult to explain and get a message across with out upsetting anyone. You think it’s an hard life being an accywebber, try being a moderator. :(

No... I'm sure there are thousands of people with the same abilities as Roy who could sort out the accyweb problems but as for us moderators we are average people with average jobs and average miserable lives, just like everyone else and unfortunatly we can not sort it. :D

Re: Accyweb problems

And dont forget the site allways runs slower at night as it does a full backup of the system.

Most of these problems happen during the day... just read this thread to see that.. As for being patient.... we are.. but everyone has limits.. dont expect everyone elses limit to be the same as yours.

My limit is long.. I can live with the problems :) But that doesnt stop me wanting to list them or wanting them to stop does it ?

Well today it seems to be running better ( I know I have gone and said it now )

But if Roy has sorted the problems, thanks Roy. It can be very frustrating at times, but on the other hand, it's a good site when it's up and running as smooth as a babies bottom:D .

Glad I’m not the only one having problems.
I’ve been struggling tonight, 1 in 25 pages have loaded, I think that’s the correct description and nobody has been calling Roy!!

I hope you can help.

You can say that again shane.
Is it the site or is it the server, cos I think it's the server and if it is, they should fix it, not roy. They've probably put a load of world cup sites on the server and it's got to many connections. the server says no, I'm busy.

Here are the problems I have had:-

When I post it doesn't acknowledge that I've posted.

Private messages sometimes disappear into the ether after I've sent them and all I'm left with is the frustrating ' this page cannot be displayed message'

Numerous 'page cannot be displayed' messages when trying to read some of the messages.

That's all I've noticed..:)
