Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Oh dear....so he's not as nice as he looks then.....he always used to come across as a decent bloke...who's Emly Huges? What's she do?
|
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Sorry meant Emlyn Hughes the football player - it's a typing error! He was Bill's opponent on a Question of Sport - did you never watch it?
|
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Only rarely.....I prefer to stick my head into the pages of a good book rather than watch telly...and I'm not that much into sport anyway. I won't be watching the England - Turkey game this saturday, thats for sure...

Somewhat ironic, is it not, that Gatty - the guy who developed the Khaki dye - the standard colour of the British Army battledress - was a German Apparently the guy who developed cats eyes for the roads was German and his stipulation on the patent was that they are not allowed to be used in that country |
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Hey Mik,
I thought the guy who developed Cats Eyes in the 1930's was called Percy Shaw and came from somewhere in Derbyshire.....died about 10 years back...went completely wacko with his royalties, never left his house and used to sit around watching 3 different telly's at the same time.... German, eh......and did Messersmidt invent the jet engine before Whittle? I think it all depends where you love... I see us Brits got a share in this years Nobel in Medicine & in Physics. No Germans, though. Shame that... |

Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Freudian slip there Tealeaf, have love on your subconscience do ya?
Believe Freud was German come to think of it, too..... :D |
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Austrian - but is there a difference?
|
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Thought he might have been.
Is there a difference between Brits adn Americans? If so teh same applies to Germans and Austrians..... !! ;D (ps Austrians are more laid back and have a better sense of humour than Germans) |
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
The Germans speak the same language as the Austrians, unlike the British & the Americans......
|
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
Not true. :(
more words differ between "hoch deutsch", which is spoken in Germany, predominantly in the North, and "Österreicherisch" spoken in Austrian than between English and America. Example: Gibst Du mir bitte zwei Eier, um einen Pfannenkuchen zu kochen? Gibst mir zwo coccele, um ein omlett zu bocken? Can I have two eggs to make a pancake please? Think it would be the same in US English, big diff though in German and Austrian. ;D |
Re: Accrington Claim to fame
I'll remember that in World War III
