Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
As for football darby.. thats your opinion of what football is and not fact... we all have our own feelings.. you cant simply tell everyone its not important.. you can inform people of your opinions and what you believe... but for some people football takes on a lot more importance and meaning... its not for you to say they are wrong :)

I was also young once (surprise), and was a big Rovers Fan, my son is a big Rovers Fan. I was on the old stanley site as Tanpits Tom, and thoroughly enjoyed it and the banter. I use to feel gutted on Saturday nights if Rovers had got beat. So I'm not saying that anybody is wrong. Just trying to get things in perspective. I'm not standing on a soap-box and preaching..just trying to be sensible and provide those who believe (and its their right to) that football is the be all and end all of society, that there is life after football, and before and during it. OK go ahead and enjoy it, I do when I go up to the Crown ground (Interlink Stadium to some), and I like the banter/chat and have a good laugh and watch some honest endevour football from some young lads who care about their club (the language is not a problem to me being ex-RN). So think before you accuse :wario: |
Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
Deary me... calm down :) My point was that not everyone thinks like you.. some people actualy think football is very important.. some even think its life or death.....
Thats my point.. try not to be insulted by it mate :) |

Your point was obvious, and taken in the way it was meant to be. I'm not sure you could insult me... it's been tried before by professionals... without success. Like your Photos though ;) |
Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
Just to continue this theme of priorities in the media. While there was major trouble in Iraq yesterday which could well be spreading to the British Sector and while it appears that (our) government has now abdicated it's primary purpose - the defence of our frontiers - what does our Tabloid press have to say?
Very little. Instead, we have 4 or 6 pages on Beckham playing away from home. I am just sick and tired of seeing lots of pictures and newsprint on the antics of this "celebrity couple". As far as I am concerned, my neighbour's cat has more musical talent (and also looks better) than Mrs Beckham. And Given Mr Beckham's rather limited footballing skills, I think the same cat could probably play better than him giving a morning's coaching. |
Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
The problem with it is, the fact that viewing figures and sales of newspapers govern what the content of them is! Although many people are dying all around the world, not just Iraq, but Spain and even closer to home, it seems mr Beckham having an affair is supposedly far more important!!

Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
I think you got it in one Savo. The press really want us to bury our heads in the sand, whilst Rome burns. Talk about a hidden agenda!!

Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
At the end of the day i love football more than life itself (memories of the physio sport ad with Paolo Di Canio spring to mind). But i also understand that not every body is of the same opinion as me.
If england were to win a major trophy i could understand football being the major headline, or if somebody such as Alex Ferguson or Geoff Hurst, some one who has brought a lot to the game died (god forbid!), but for a manager, or a player, (who at the end of the day everybody hated only 5 years ago) grab the front pages regarding their personal lives, it is 'dumbing down' the atrocities going on elsewhere on this planet! There are an awful lot of people whose family members are serving to protect every one of our futures against the likes of bin Laden and his crones, not to mention our brave soldiers in Iraq, Northern Ireland and other places around the world. These are the people who deserve the headlines, not sports stars, pop singers or inflatable models!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sonic: |
Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
I dont ever buy the daily papers because of the reasons stated, what does it say about the population of paper readers if they would rather read about so called STARS in the media all the time, rather than what is going on around the world.

Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
...I've just read the "Times"....even that has got a full page of this peurile drivel. I despair, I really do.
|
Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
I don't buy any national papers because they are full of nonsense about celebrities that I really couldn't care less about. I do get the Accy Observer and even the little local rag sensationalises it's headlines.

Re: Think Gobsmacked Is The Word.
been away for a while. just read about 10 posts. see your points. will mention this then leave you to the football.
its just easy to get a little wound up when memories are still fresh in your head, and you hear some people not appreciating what is realy happening. nuff said. didnt mean to kick off. asppologies. |

QUOTE] Unfortunately, for some reason everyone in the media wants them to split up. Personally I hope they have the perfect marriage they seem to have, what does it matter to us anyway? I know that I wouldn't find it easy to make a relationship last when everyone around is trying to ruin it. What does my head in about the news is that if something happens in the northwest it stays on the northwest news, if the same thing happens in the south it's national news! And weather reports - If the north gets snow no one knows about it, London gets 3 flakes of snow - & once again national news! Sorry to moan - but I'm really feeling this North/South divide. |
