I smoked 40 a day, but gave up 30 years ago 22nd Feb 1978 acctually, it was the first time the doc talked to me about smoking, he said he knew how hard it was but I should cut down and smoke a less tar brand. I just said sod it and haven't had a fag since, but I have been struggling with weight ever since, I regularly diet and lose 2 to 3 stone, I usually put on around two and a half stone in summer and lose it again in the winter, the most I've ever weighed is 14 stone 11lb the least is 11 stone 10lb. Before I gave up smoking I weighed 11 stone 7lb and was 6ft 4in tall, I could eat and drink what I wanted and never put pound on, weighed the same from leaving school up to giving over smoking,

Id do it with ya, but im afraid i dont smoke anymore, gave up nearly 8 years ago, while pregnant....piled on the weight too, but now iv conquered that too;)

Wont be giving up anytime soon, but wish you well with it, be positive and keep busy (not on here, that wont help), that is the secret.

good luck to you in trying to give up smoking, i stopped in february, but, i went to my medical centre and got patches, they were brilliant, for me, don't suit everyone, and was monitored by the practice nurse, have been off patches for 4 weeks now, feel ok, but am putting on weight even though i only have one meal a day work full time, and do not eat very much in the way of sweet foods. do try your best to give up. if anyone can suggest a way to remove these extra pounds, i would appreciate it

Ive been up to the clinic tonight, they have given me patches and an inhalator. i did the carbon monixide puffer thingy and it came up as 22, 5 times more than a none smoker but not as bad as i expected.. the guy before me got 50!! will pick them up tomorrow and quit on friday! not looking forward to it :(

unfortunatly i have to go through the rigmoral of patches and gum etc before i can get my beloved champix

champix works and you get no cravings but silly me started again and now i have to go get my patches etc and pretend im at least trying to give up until i get champix which will do the trick

tried telling the smoking people there was no way i was putting myself through the cravings and bad moods knowing that if i get champix its much easier to stop but they are insistant i try patches and gum etc before going on champix;)

you know most of these people havnt even smoked themselves and i asked then what gives them the right to get snotty when i slip and have a sneaky fag unless you have been there and given up yourself, do yourself a favour keep smoking and say you cant manage on nicotine replacement and ask for champix

you wont get champix if you have mental illness or heart problems though but its very effective
