I did this for my son a few weeks back.
All his mates from work kept inviting him round to thiers for tea etc, so I let him do the same here.
He bought all the stuff and I cooked (didnt want any one goin down with food poisoning lol) and I did a bbq for them
He had a few of his mates around they all brought some beer then after the bbq they all sat in the dining room and I just left them to get on with it . they were all well behaved and it worked well .
Of course this is only good if you have the room and thankfully I have a a lounge and seperate dining room which I use for the kids to entertain mates

Willow, you don't mention how old Mimi and her friends are. Some 'pubs' may be wary of a group of kids coming in unacompanied( especially in these days of police being super keen on under age drinking.)

If they are under 16/18 then I would recommend ringing the place and speaking to the manager to let them know to expect them and leave your number in case there are any problems or questions. It will certainly put the pub at ease and the staff will not be worried about them "doinga runner" or anything.

Just my experience of when I was assistant manaager at the Redcap

Re: where to go for a birthday meal for teenagers who are skint?

Thanks Ian. That thought hadn't crossed my mind as all the kids I know are not the sort who would do a runner. She has been with a few friends to Bentley Wood Farm for a meal (she went in friend's car that time) which her friend arranged and there weren't any problems then. I will bear it in mind though. They range from late teens to early twenties.

We couldn't have a barbecue whatever the weather is like because we literally do not have the room. Our back yard is an L-shaped path full of wheelie bin and recycling bags/boxes and a few tubs with plants in. There is barely enough room to walk to the backyard door.

As for having them all in the house, I don't think it would feel like a birthday 'do' as they quite often have friends round to the house and she wants to do something special and different and adult.

Thanks, :) I'll get her to make notes. I think she has pretty much decided on the Redcap now.

I suggested that to her - but it ends up being quicker me posting the thread. I don't think she even has the email address she used when she joined. I think we were still on AOL back then :D

Re: where to go for a birthday meal for teenagers who are skint?

you cant actually do a runner from the redcap....you pay for your meal as you go in at the bar and they give you a ticket which you have to give to the chef who is dishing out the meats, really kid proof....willow if she hasnt much money tell her to buy herself a blackcurrant and soda (lemonade really not soda) they only cost 30p for half a pint, dead cheap and a lot cheaper than a coke

Re: where to go for a birthday meal for teenagers who are skint?

Thanks Flashy - I should have realised that because we went to a Pub and Carvery a few weeks ago and they did they same thing. I'll still check with them though to see if they have any objections to a party of young people. I know BWF don't because she's going there again tonight with another friend - hence why she wanted to go somewhere different. When a bunch of them went a few weeks ago they were very welcome.

i dont suppose it really matters, if they are well mannered and well behaved then that should be fine, how else are kids supposed to be brought into the 'real world' if you know what i mean

Re: where to go for a birthday meal for teenagers who are skint?

They seem like a very well behaved crowd to me - in fact a lot less rowdy than a crowd of adults who were at the Royal Phoenix once when we went there. It never crossed my mind that the pub may object to them until Ian said that. But then again he has had experience.
