Anyone identify this cap badge/uniform?

Hi,

Attached is a photo of my maternal grandfather, James Baron taken in 1940. Don't know what he did during the war - this photo is my only clue. Looks to me like a Fleur de lys on his cap. Anyone any ideas? He was from Ossy if that helps.
