but to get back to the matter in hand...........whats happening to the tree they cut down? Has it died of old age or is it diseased, in which case the wood has to be destroyed. And if that is the case, why has the council left a bit?

Tealeaf, you must live near the church then.  I wonder where you live???????  The tree did NOT have a disease, it was just decaying, or so they say, I hope they were correct, cos all the wood they chopped down looked in pretty good condition to me.  (not than I am an expert of course)

I think it was a case of the branch the young girl was on was rotting and so was weak and that it how she fell out (I think?!  :-/ )  So they have probably had to take it down hance stopping other children climbing it and having the same happen to them.   ???

Dizzy, you have gotten the tree mixed up. The tree that the young girl fell out of was in milnshaw park not christ church.

Post PHOTO OF THE TREE

Hi, I now have a photo of the beautiful tree they have chopped down in the grounds of Christ Church. It does look strange without it!
Photo with compliments of Owd Bert - taken October 2003
