plumbing advice - or the cost of this job..

I recentley bought a bath mixer tap thingy - but after taking my original bath taps off and sitting the mixer in their place it would appear that the hot and cold pipes for the mixer are not as long as the pipes are for the original taps and there is a gap of about 3? inches between mixer pipes and the actual water pipes..

so how do I solve this ? I am sure parts may be gotten but dont know where to start...
or how much would it cost to have it done...I cant imagine it being a big job in all honesty...
I hope I have explained it right so it makes sense..

Good morning gg, go to a merchant and buy two flexible pipe to pipe connectors, cut the pipes just over length (taking a peice out of the middle) and connect the flexi, be careful not to get any kinks, or, buy flexible tap connectors, which are more expensive, and connect from taps to pipes, watch for ragged edges as they will split the rubber seals, kopex pipe slices are best for cutting, can lend you a pair if you close enough,

right , cheers for this derekgas...but is there any specific size/diameter of flexy pipe I should be getting ? or is it all standard...bearing in mind the pipes are old..perfect nick but just not modern..

and what do you mean 'take a bit out the middle' ?

you can buy flexi pipes which are pushfit both ends, so they fit pipe to pipe, or, flexi push fit one end, and 3/4 tap connector at the other, if pipe to pipe, you have to cut out a section of pipe, the pipes will be 3/4" on hot side, and 1/2" on cold side, if you tell merchants this, they will give you correct type.

I think I will go for the pushfit ones - they appear to be the easy solution...and there will be no danger of leaking will there ?
I presume I go to the plumbing people for this..

Plumbing people may not have them, and will have your arms and legs off, some of the asian places will be open, or b & q. wont leak if there are no sharp edges and they are pushed in properly.
