Re: Smoking

Best of luck AB. I loved the inhalator for giving up, it gives you a good nicotine hit at the back of your throat, a bit like inhaling a fag. Of course, I'm going to have to give up again sometime....

Re: Smoking

From t'other channel (last posting 2 weeks ago): Quit Smoking
March 9 is National No Smoking Day and here on Hyndburn Life we have enlisted the help of a specialist nurse who will be going live online on our forum to offer advice and practical information to help people who want to stop smoking. Nicola Parkes is the Team Leader of the Quest Specialist Smoking Cessation Advisors which is part of the Hyndburn, and Ribble Valley Primary Care Trust. Nicola will be on-line on a specially dedicated Quit Smoking Forum on National No Smoking Day between 9.30am and 11am and will be able to answer all your questions.

Yep. Well, I'm sure that's going to be a big success.....unless, of course, A-B makes a contribution.

What you up to with this no-smoking lark, anyway A-B?

Re: Smoking

Wish you all the best A-B,hypnotism worked for my ex mum in law. 2 sessions at £60 each, money well spent when you consider the cost of fags.

Thank you all for the messages of support and advice. I am at once, humbled and tremendously bouyed-up. I particularly liked Pixies john Cleese idea and Entwisi's change of thinking idea. Today has been one of the longest I have had for quite some time, but here I am, 22 hours on and still going.

Re: Smoking

Oh A-B,you can most certainly do this, you are obviously a very strong character and have the wherewithall to occupy your mind elsewhere!

Keep at it,and as stvky said, the will power is the most important thing, you have got to want to stop!
We are all with you!

Good on you A-B.......I hope that with the support of the gang on here you will make it. My hubby gave up some 15 years ago......everytime he wanted a fag he would go for a brisk walk. He also saved all the money he would have spent on fags and bought himself a set of alloy wheels for his car......that was something he really wanted and couldn't afford while he was smoking.......so save your money and buy yourself something you would not have had if you hadn't given up. doing it for yourself is the best motivator(rather than being told you have to give up).

An excellent way of going about "giving up"

Re: Smoking

I must agree that going for a walk helps. Just think how happy Acrylic Biff will be with all his extra exercise...

And when you start to taste your food properly again.
And then when you "smell" a smoker and think - Oh my goodness...did I really smell THAT bad?

Hang in there AB!

Re: Smoking

I used to live with two smokers (my parents) and was so used to the smell that I didn't understand what people meant when they said they could smell a smoker a mile off.

Then they both gave up and gradually the air cleared and the house became fresher, their clothes and hair no longer had the odour of dead ashtray and I realised the difference.

After that even when I just passed a smoker in the street I could smell that awful stale tobacco smell which I had never even realised existed previously. It's amazing how the brain can eliminate a smell from being recognised when it is a constantly familiar one.

If nothing else A-b your nose will thank you for it.
