Hi all,
Went to rhyddings 1980 - 1986.
The teachers were, Mr Thomson (red faced PE teacher), Ohharrgreaves maths teacher and houghton weaver, captain krem (nice pants), Dopey Roper, Mr snow, Mr Howarth, Slap head Parr, Paddy effernan, Miss Gordon (every schoolboys dream).
There was a mad woodwork teacher who threw lumps of wood about, what was he called, also what was the PE teacher called that died at the sport centre?

I went to Rhyddings 83-88, Miss Moore was the head & took our history class, dropped that subject as soon as I could. Can remember Mrs Ware & Mr Furley (the perv) from English, Mr Walkden & Duffy for Maths, Mr Chapples for French/German, Mr Hunt for RE (now locked up for fiddling with boys), Mrs Fogg/Cottam as form teacher & Home Ec was a prison officer & now working for social services getting teenage girls back to school after having sprogs. Mr Haworth for Human Biology, (& his brother was one of my teachers at Hippings). Mrs Townsend for PE (drove round in her car while we were getting corned beef legs in cross country!). Mrs Atkinson for commerce, Mr Downs for chemistry (v. bad BO!) 2 nervous breakdowns - Mr Best (Physics) & Mrs Foster (Home Ec)
My son now goes there, I was so surprised at how much it's changed - we used to have 1 room with a few basic computers in it and were never allowed in it, now there's at least one in every room and dedicated computer suites. No black boards anywhere (can we still say black boards as they are now white boards?!) Don't think there's many teachers left from my day, think Mrs Tipper is still there - she used to grab hold of us naughty girls who dared to wear earrings & make-up! Still found my way around although most of the classes have moved about into the new buildings.
The jumpers & polos change to the opposite colours in the 5th year and have also had to buy a training suit for PE which he hasn't worn once in 14 months! They seem to think us parents have money to burn!

What a trip down memory lane, my brain obviously isn't as frazzled as I thought!

I was there in 83, I would have been in the 3rd year, my form room was one of the music rooms in the east block(not the one at the front of the building)

shame i would have had miss moore but she left just before i started i had mr burke aka flat face.

Les Newton was the soundest one of the lot, spot on teacher!!

Mr Duffy was the angry one of the lot, i remeber when i back chatted him and he started pushing me around the room into desks and walls then grabbing my ear and pulling me down to the head master, he had a belly and was a drunk he even had a fridge, microwave, bacon, grill in his storeroom and a bottle of water (cough vodka cough) in the desk.

Mr Craven wow the most boringestest teacher in the world he didn't even have a TV just reads books.

Mr young was a good laugh

I was there from 93 to 98 and seemed to have wiped most of the memories of the place (it was that good!). Miss Moore was the Head but I think Mr Burke started in my last year. We were also one of the first year 5 to wear the jumpers instead of just the year 5 tie with the blazer. Miss Pickering was my form teacher for most of the time, she was a science teacher. I had both Mr Duffy and Miss Tipper for maths at one point or another. Mr Newton was one of my teachers for my GCSE's.

I also had Mr Chapples as a German teacher and a couple of years ago he ended up doing some translation work at company I work for and we we're working together! Very surreal - he had to translate orders in French for me to process, but he kept trying to teach me French instead of just translating it! He also told me off for eating crisps at my desk!!!

My form teacher was Mr Duffy. Was taught by Mr and Mrs Atkinson. Miss Foster for cookery and music. Also Mr Kieron for music too. Then Mrs Fogg for cookery ..wow was she strict ! Gave one of my mates a slap cause her skirt was too short and called her a sl*g, two months later we found out her teenage daughter who was the same age as us was preggers !! lol.
Mr Chappels used to frighten the life out of me. Mrs Banks was always pulling me up and telling me i was not as quiet as my mum and dad whom she had taught. Mrs Marigold retired when i was in my second year. PE teachers was Mrs Halliwell and Mrs Townsend. Bumped into her at the blood donors when i was 18 and contemplating giving my first pint. I had no option when she saw me, she dragged me in ! lol.
Mr Hargreves was my history teacher, some reason he didnt like me much, used to call me cloth-ears cause i have hearing problems.
My art teacher was Miss Quearous (spelling ??), she was only very young and very soft so we walked all over her.
Sciences was taken by Mr Roper, remember his car crash, he came back a wreak.. we lit a ciggi up in the back of the class and he didnt notice.
Miss More was the head teacher at the time, we called her cream-bun in her elephant gret suits ! Mr Williams was the deputy head, very swarve with his mustache and pin-stripped suits.
Trying to remember the name of the caretaker who had an heat attack in the lads changing rooms ...think it was Earnie, he was a lovely old man. Mr Thompson was another pe teacher at the time, his wife was an art teacher and could be a dragon !lol.
Well thats all i can remember for the time being. I left Rhyddings in 1985.

Chrissie

How funny! I remember all of those teachers, as I left Rhyddings in 1985 too. Wouldn't have been able to recall this in such detail, mind: well done you. This stirs up quite a few memories.

I was at Rhyddings from 1940 to 1943. We didnt have blazers or pullovers then, no one cold afford them. We couldnt even play tennis as there was no one to teach us. Teachers. Mr.Gibson Head, Mr. Lord, Mr. Bainbridge, Mr. Barron, Mrs Margerison.and Mrs. Lucas I cannot remember other names. Anyone else around from those days who play with computers? Hi rex29

I'm the granddaughter of your old geography teacher, Alan Gibson, who sadly died in 1977. I'm not sure if he was still teaching at the time that he died? I am also of course the great-granddaughter of his father, Richard Gibson, the first head teacher of Rhyddings. Can you give me any more information about them ? I'd love to get any information at all from anyone that knew them.

Thanks

Went to Rhyddings 1951 to 1955.
Headmaster Mr Gibson and then Mr Lord (Who could'nt hit a barn door if he was sat on the sneck) I'm talking about 'The Cane'
He meant to hit you on the hand but your wrist was sore for day's.
Mr Frankland 'Birdie' bit sweet on the art teacher.
Mr Kerr music teacher. nice man.
Mr Ainsworth. Woodwork. OK
Pop Baron...I reserve judgement.
Does anyone remember the 'Pole' for new entrants?
I am sure there are a lot left who remember.......lets hear it :jimbo:

I left in the same year. I disagree about Mr Goodhall, he was so funny!!Mrs M was a dragon that was all heart and Mr M was a wonderful teacher. A also remember Mr Waterhouse - Maths and Mr Smiths English, both tried to tell me so much about studying that I didn't listen to till much later in life.

I remember Mr Gibson - Geography, but that is about it.

In all Rhyddings was a waste of 5 years of my life but it was not all the school or the teachers fault. Heaven knows why I sent my son there. He left about 10 years ago but seemed to enjoy the place a lot more than I did. He taught Mr Spack (spelling?) and Mr Young Ju-Jitsu after school.

I also remember Stuart Westall and staid friends with Tommy Stanger right up until his untimely death, that was a great shame and a waste of a life

I wonder if anyone on this site can guess my maiden name?
