73 - 78 my years. Nobody mentioned Mr. Longstaff who was always falling asleep in GED but he could draw it better on the blackboard than we could on paper.
Mr Newton (GED)was great so was Mr. Waterhouse (MATHS)
Dickie Downs was chemistry and my form tutor.
We went through 4 RI teachers in one year

Oh yes Mr Waterhouse was a proper Maths teacher.

Remember his rhyme about A commuter?
A commuter is one who wakes and shaves and takes a train,
Then comes home to shave again.

I met him a few years after leaving Rhyddings. I was in Accy library looking for A level standard Maths book and he was delighted that I was back in education and doing Maths ( I had dropped out)

I attended Rhyddings 74-80, (Andrew Johnstone) and felt that it was a good school. Of course we had our characters...

Heffernan certainly needed medical help, and Goodall (history) very odd. I remember him hurling a huge bunch of keys at some kid who was looking out of the window day dreaming. He missed by inches, but if he had connected it would have been a crime scene! I also remember him dictating to us and pulling himself on to the counter and without missing a beat, washing his feet !??
I also cant believe no one has mentioned more about Miss Butterworth. A leggy goddess! She ruined me in my hormonally toxic years of puberty... oh how I wished to be a "victim" of a teacher love scandal.
Mr Elland was metalwork and was homicidal. I saw him take down Kevin Fey during class and we all stood around jaw dropped as he beat this kid up. We didn't know if we should step in as a class to defend Fey. It was an assault, not punishment, he should have been locked up.
Glad to see we all survived.

You were so lucky to have been able to do woodwork. They would not let girls take the subject - I asked.
Got stuck with damned silly Domestic Science and achieved a 'U' in the exam.

That is quite true, never thought of that. It was only on the really hot days that we were allowed to take our ties off and unbutton our top button. They wernt strict about blazers then but still had to have jumper on, shirt tucked in and generally looking smart. Dont think comfort really came into it when I was at school. We had a dress code and had to stick to it (granted that didnt alway happen but the school tried)

Hi all,
i was there 77 - 82, Miss Wallace was our last form teacher before we escaped, cant remember the name of the year tutor but he used to spend more time in registration than we did like a luv sick puppy.
Par for metalwork and that maniac Winckley for woodwork.
Couldn'd escape French fast enough thanks to Herr Chapples.
Mr Smith for English, dopey Roper for maths i think.
Mr Kiernan for music and Dickie Downs the bucket chemist.
Mrs Barnes for Biology, human Biology was a big disappointment!
Mr Ormorod was our first maths teacher, great guy.
Remember when the first computers arrived ?.

Mr Hacking was his name.
He had a slipper [about a size 14] with a plywood insert, and used it quite a lot.
If i remember correctley his favourite saying was,BEND OVER AND FACE MECCA and then WHACK.
Most Friday afternoons in woodwork class were spent washing his car[a Ford classic] ready for the weekend.

Volney was my mum's cousin - the name is of French origin and comes through from my Great-grandfather's brother's second wife, Blanche who was French...

Will send you a pm about your grandfather Alan.

Yeh me too only just seen the post...My brother Donald was there from 1954-58...I was there 1964-69 and my nephew Jason was there 1979-84......The English teacher Mr Eric Smith taught all three of us...others I remember...Mr Ogilvy (Music), Mr Barnes (History I think) and Mrs Barnes(history), Mr Howland (woodwork), Mr Eland (Metalwork) Mr Abbott (Physics) Mr Gibson(Geography) Mr Kerr & Mr Waterhouse(Maths) Mr Downs (Chemistry) Mr Cunliffe (PE)and Mr Smith (English) mr Marsden and Mrs Merrigold.

Forget who taught RE, Art, Tech Drawing and History in the 5th year.

I remember the first year classes were at Moorhead Junior school, Then I spent the second year at Haworth st and the 4th and 5th years at the Tech on Union Rd.

I remember when I left it seemed like just another day and we all just went home. Nowadays there seems to be partys, prom nights, last day seems to be a free for all with everyone painting each other and all sorts going on.....Did I miss out somewhere??

Anyone got photos of the 64-69 era.....

Phil
