I was in the same class as Bernard, Helen, Gwendoline, Jimmy, Linda (my 'girlfriend') Johnson. Around 1958-1961. There was always a rhythmic thud coming from across the playground which I now realise was from the Fountain Foundry in Fountain Street and an acrid smell, a bit like burnt sugar, which I think was the molten iron making contact with the sand in the moulding beds. |
