Re: A Law Above Themselves!

according to the news he was driving a slightly tweeked up vauxhall vectra, all singing all dancing by the sounds of it.if he was to do an emergency stop at the said 159mph it would still take him quater of a mile to stop.
i dont care how bloody good a driver he was.i would have thought there would be a training track for them to practice on.i have seen a certain police force practicing at salmesbury and regulary get overtaken by them on A59.
the judge said he was the creme de la creme of driving.would the judge say that if his child had been hit at 84 mph.

ONE RULE FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ANOTHER:( :s_whizz: :swear8:

Re: A Law Above Themselves!

The fact that he was highly trained is irrelevant, surely no police officer needs to drive at 160mph. In a pursuit situation I thought they deployed a helicopter to track the suspect vehicle(s) and the highly trained, creme de la creme drivers were merely used to intercept the offenders. In which case why do police traffic officers need to be trained to drive at such speeds on public highways?

The thing I don't understand is, why did he put the car camera on when he was doing this?

So we shouldn't have done him for 159, we should have done him for being thick! ;)

Re: A Law Above Themselves!

Surely he had the camera on to watch the video later. He had it on because, as he says, he thought he was doing nothing wrong. Many people, on the other hand think differently to this. In this country we have been brainwashed, "Speed Kills" we are told.
The truth is that in Germany, where I have driven quite a lot of Kilometers. If you pass a Police Car whilst you are doing 100mph (l60kph) they do not bat an eyelid.

The thought over there is that it is not speed that kills, but rather driving too fast or inapropriately is the reason for most accidents. Bad Driving.

Like all rules, for instance it is often inappropriate to drive at 30mph in the town where pedestrians are feet away from HGV's travelling 44 feet per second.

Also how can one evaluate a sign that says on a bend max. 40mph. Does that mean to a 40 tonne Juggernaut or to a Modern sports car correctly maintained with a competent driver.

That is true, there are many road which are not speed limited. However many are and these speed limits are patrolled just as rigorously there in Germany, as in this country.

On the plus side many people who, unlike us in this country, do learn to drive at much higher speeds.

There are many differences; for instance you learn to drive at a Driving School, not sat next to your mother who has no control of the car if you make a mistake.

There are also driving lessons on the Morotways (Autobahns) which seems to teach people not to drive in the centre lane, or in the fast (overtaking) lane and sit there with no regard to any other road user.

The way people behave in cars reflects the attitude of people today, you would not see such rude behaviour anywhere else. Or would you?

In general Iwould say that in my opinion the standard of driving is much better over there.

[QUOTE=big al]Acceleration can also get you out of trouble iewhen a pratt is coming at you on the wrong side of the road & you have to put your foot down to make a safe exit for yourself.

Sorry Big Al but this is not always the case, as some nurse on her way to work at 6.30 pulled out of a stop sign without waiting she then saw us comming down the road and instead of waiting where she was, she must of thought if i go fast enough i would get to the other side (not the case). If she had stopped we could have gone around her but she didnt she went for it and in which case we went straight into the side of her. Not a pretty sight i can tell you both cars written off!!

So you see brains should be used instead of acceleration.

It's down right ridiculous as has already been said if it was anyone else they would be banned by now. As for idiots on the road there are far too many, anyone wanting examples, take a trip on any road especially motorways in rush hour. I haven't enough fingers & toes to count the number of times we have almost been written off between here and the trafford centre on wednesdays & fridays around 6pm

I have to say that the drivers in and around Manchester are nutcases.

We went up there a few years ago for a wedding, and I couldn't believe quite how bad the driving is up there.

Apologies to people up there who drive carefully, but it is a little tamer down south (with the possible exception of London, of course!)

The law states that if you are clocked at driving at over 100 mph it is an AUTOMATIC ban. How long the ban is for is left to the discretion of the Judge. I saw the photographs. This guy was driving amongst lanes of other traffic. There was little or nothing he could have done to avoid an accident if someone else made the slightest mistake, however good a driver he is. As for being the creme de la creme of driving, anyone who drives at that speed on a public road is a crap driver, whatever his or her "skills" are supposed to be.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists states "The only true test of skill is safety". The only reason this lunatic didn't kill himself and several others is pure luck. Skill had little or nothing to do with it. Perhaps if I ever get a speeding ticket, I can claim that I am an advanced motorist, and therefore the rules do not apply to me. What do you think my chances are of getting away with it?

I also heard this on the radio and listened with utter disbelief. Not disbelief about the motorway speed but shock at the 84mph in a 30 zone. This officer, no matter how skilled he claims to be, obviously has little or no regard for human life, as any area classed as a 30mph zone is obviously a built up urban area. The police have areas where cars of this calibre can be tested and drivers put through their paces.

Having a bit of power and acceleration potential in a car can get a driver out of trouble but only if the driver knows how to correctly use that facility. If you speed up to avoid an accident a sensible person would slow down once the coast was clear. It is speed in inappropriate places which kills. The law in this country really is an ass, this officer should have been banned....

Brian, 52, of Birmingham, called the PC Milton case a “joke”. And he said: “The idea this man can commit these speeds and walk free is unbelievable. There is one rule for us and one for the police.”

When has it been any different? As long as I can remember its always been the same, I've been drinking with cops who couldn't walk but who drove home and never got a ticket, been in pubs with lock ins if a cop was with us no problems, my Dads best mate was a detective in Burnley and if I got in to any trouble in Burnley just had to mention his name and everything was cool. All of a sudden its a shock! Police, MP's, priests, Millionaires they all walk away scott free.
