What do I have to do?
 

I have for some time been p*ssed off with accyweb, (not in the way Kipax has but in my own way), I haven't seen any posts really, really, worth answering in ages so like everyone else I am making do with what we have.

(yes, I am probably as guilty as everyone else in that I haven't been bothered to put my mind to finding something interesting).

But we make do with the easy shot every time (in My case it's the Pseudo intellectual that wants to show me how clever he/she/it is when all I want to do is show him/her/that, that I am far more clever, (we won't win because we are both full of sh*t)).

Accyweb was started as a coming together, a meeting of minds, a place where ex-pats could get together and talk about their home town, we the residents were allowed on the site as guests.

Because of our selfish nature we are all taking away the proper and honest reasons for accyweb to exist and that is to give our brothers and sisters that are living abroad a feeling of home!

They (the ex pats) were the reason accyweb was started, here is where I converge with Kipax this site aint' what it used to be we are all guilty of too much complaining and not enough action!

I will now retire to the Calm Room to recover from this outburst, anyone wanting to join me is welcome.

Less having only been on accyweb a short time I to think that some of the threads may be giving the ex-pats bad feelings about our town.

Lets see if we can find some news that will be welcomed by everybody both here and world wide

Probably because you out of all of us are one of lifes innocents!

You don't even come into the running for what upsets me on this site, if ever you were to have one (yes, just one) thought that could be worth considering I would cut my throat (but, for that to happen neither of us would be in a place where sharp implements would be allowed so I'm safe).

No, I'm looking for old thoughts & good ideas some of the things that helped create this site in the first place, but I either see idiots complaining (and before anyone says anything that includes me) or self seekers trying to influence accyweb and it's people for their own gains (which really, really, really, gets my goat).

I love what accyweb was not what it seems to be advancing towards, Nostalgia ain't what it used to be, (That was one of mine, it could almost make a section on it's own!).

I'd stop any threads being started by BBC and ZDnet - the two of them are little more than spam but they clog up the new posts almost every day. I've never once seen them debating things.

I can see no harm in telling you park, most of them come from smiley central (ignore people that tell you they have had problems with that site, I've always found it reliable) and:-

I hope you find these sites useful as I have already stated that I'm ****ed off with accyweb so if I say goodbye to you perhaps you could make a little effort and add something to the end of your threads, at least then I'll know my posting wasn't for nothing.

I must admit it was a funny thread kipax but "the rest of us dont feel the need to lower ourselves to toilet writing". There is no need to suggust that Less is a sodomite. Oh no here we go again. :D :D :D

Back on topic - I hope that our ex-pat friends enjoy the good old English humour that can often be found on this site. I am sure it reminds them of home. All the complaining about Hyndburn and the Council etc, should reassure them that moving away was a good idea.

Some one like me I suppose, who no longer resides in Accy, I think the site is great & and very addictive. I mean I should be changing the beds, ironing all sorts of things on my day off, but what am I doing, reading Accyweb of course.

Well, I for one love the site. When I first joined only a couple of months back, I was really quite low, I had just split up with someone who I thought I had a chance with (got that one wrong), I found I was questioning my whole life and I really felt like it was on its arse as much as it could be - basically I wasn't a very happy bunny. Now however, I'm almost as happy as can be, everyone I've met is bloody wonderful, I see hope again, and feel as though there is a future out there for me, so a BIG thank you to everyone who has played a part in that.

Right think I'll stop there, cos I might blub.

You nearly told me the reason you had stopped posting, then we were interupted.

I'm still confused. I know some of the older members say the forum was better in the 'old days', but if it is just a place for expats it wouldn't be as fast moving, and Hyndburn Life would have taken off to replace what we now have.

Or perhaps I'm just one of those self publicists who posts to much, thread wanders, and doesn't confine my thoughts just to matters regarding 'home'.

There is not enough news in Accrington to keep this forum going I'm afraid, that's when you get people talking about things that THEY want to talk about.
This may seem boring to some people, but, to others it is good reading. I think I'm right in thinking this is what makes the world go round.
As I said, News in Accrington can be very little sometimes............just look how skinny the Observer is getting these days..........:eek: .

There is obviously a market for a forum like it is now, as we can see from it's continuing success.

Without the input of a handful of regular posters and thread starters this place becomes a bit sluggish, as it did when Willow was on holiday, A-b was quiet and Less's silence was deafening.

I, like Sarah, love Accy Web, and have found it literally life changing.:)

only been a member a few months, would think when the site was set up there wouldnt be that many members,and yes it does get sluggish sometimes but what doesnt,all i can add to this is ive made some great mates in a short time and think its a great site, have looked at a few others but havent joined them, in other words this will DO for me.

dont lafff....its seven years ago :) and hardly anyone around here was on the internet... i had been online 8 years at that point (about 15 yrs online now) anyways.. when i set that up there was only one person who uses accyweb online now around then... none of the rest of you where.. well most wernt... so it died a quick death and someone made me a money offer for the domain so i sold it :)

Roy started it at a good time when plenty of people around... i have supported roy from day one... love the place.... if i had time i would ahve tried again.. but i didnt have the time roy has hehe :)

like i say.. accyweb is for everyone.....enoy it :)

i I wasnt involved with the setup of this site.. I joined on the first day it was setup... hence my line the first day was Roy, Wingy and Me... However I have had input later and helped Roy with a few things here and there and I can assure you 100% the site is for all and not just for expats... not even primeraly for expats..

When I started mine i presumed expats would get the most benefit... accy folk can talk to each other in the pub or wherever... pensioners can talk to each other right in the middle of an aisle in asda for example :)
I presumed the most benefit would be thosE far far away.. looking around accyweb now I would say that was a country mile off the mark..

I cant speak for Roy.. but I would bet my life savings and anything else that roy sees this as a place for everyone...

I think its great as it is for one as a community, how many people have met or even spoken to other locals that they wouldn't have done so in traditional ways in todays busy & economic society where families & friends are separated, whereas traditionally in by-gone times families lived closeby, there wasn't the resources or finances to move away, traditional manufacturing industry was booming & kept many families of all generations in work even working in same mills, and where cars & phones were luxury.

Times have changed greatly, with cars, transport, phones and the vast technology have effected social & economic's changing the community interaction of many towns. So its great that local areas have moved with the times and gives both community & ex pats local information, help, re-uniting lost people, sharing memories, social interaction & much more that surely benefits everyone connected with the area, plus feedback on things that effect the town & the towns people more effectively that some other meduims.

I ahve always wanted to see AccyWeb take the next step up form that.... Not just talk about it and feeback (or constantly moan) but to do soemhting as a whole......We tried with the arndale clock.. I spent weeks sending faxs and phoning people and I used accyweb as a tool to get responses.

i think poeple will take notice of a large group like AccyWeb.. I am not talking about attacking the system or trying to beat it.. but to have an input and maybe help shape some changes..

other things... I suggested to Roy that accyweb should have a float in the accy carnival.. with this amount of people that could give input it would be a winner.. a nice computer theme. perhaps :)

lots of things we could get involved wiht.. maybe for charity to start things off....

I think we have a massive resource here thats wasted on moaning about things.. when it could be used to better things.. what things? well i dunno :)

I enjoy the web too but sometimes I find that people are too quick to take offence at a different opinion to their own. I am not reffering to any particular instance at all, this is also just an opinion. I also think that maybe the lack of stimulating threads Less may be something to do with the summer holidays. Maybe things will start to buck up when they are all finished.

I found Accyweb after Sue's Accrington Pages disappeared, just by searching on "Accrington". As a sort of ex-pat (mostly in London, but once a month or so in Ossy) I found it a great site. The real bonus was that I got in touch with old friends like Mez, and have made new ones. A site that was just for ex-pats would not have anywhere near as much life or interest. Okay, so Accy is not the news capital of the world, but it's what's happening in town that doesn't make news that interests us as well. I don't get onsite anywhere near as much as I would like, but I do enjoy most of what I read. There are times when new threads don't hold much interest, but that's a personal viewpoint, and those times are few and far between.

Let's keep it for all of us - it seems to be working brilliantly.

i love this site! after a whole year taking the mickey out of my dad and calling him a geek i had to see for myself and check out this "great web site". i eat my words with brussel sprouts!:eek: ewwww!

i love this site! im hooked! everyday there is something new to chat about, be it serious or comical!
accrington web to me stands for the people of accrington (the surrounding areas also) and ex pats to come togeather throught the internet and have a good old banter and to see what has changed about accrington and if theres some gossip about accrington then share that too and that is what we are doing!!

there are photos for the people who dont live here anymore, games arcade, chatroom, etc i dont need to carry on accy web is great as it is!
there are more and more people everyday logging on and i think that just speaks for itself. more and more people are coming to the meetings and the people who i have met are now my friends, if i hadnt have logged on to here i wouldnt have known them. it is a great website and before and after work i love logging on to see whats new.

Really though he's right. me and Roy have been best mates for nearly 15 yrs, he set the site up while working in russia (he was an expat) if my memory serves me corect he got the idea from other expat site's and started this because he missed Accy! He come's home,yells me its a poo hole and goes on about things change but like most of us its home!!! thats where the feeling is, if he thought it was home after all the crap then others did!!! so he did, they did, and look at it now!!! I'm sure Roy and many others will agree that accyweb is no 1 man band! its made by the peoplewho post here and nobody else... i remember the thread about accyweb being on the road to being on "big boards" which as far as i know is some achievement, and that only comes from the people who post here!!!


OK rant over...its half ten here in china (i'm being an expat again this week lol) and i been in the bar all night!! so basicaly make your own mind up and get posting!!!! lets get accy on the Big boards!!!!!

I have been an expat for 15 years yet fiding this site shows me what I am missing ie the fact that once from Accy always from Accy. Its something that gets in the blood so to get a good topup dose I come on hear to laugh occasionally be serious but mainly to keep up with the feel of the town. What do I have to do? return more often or move back the towns infectious.

mabe accy web does get dull, even boring at times, but its still the best site that iv'e been on, mabe some peole do waffle & blag on bout stuff i know nothing about, but i admire them for doing so, & find it quite interesting to read,& i also have a great respect for roy, & his merry band of moderaters , who though voluntary do a good & responsible job.......(not all think so) but without them i dread to think what would be put on the site, yes what a superb site it is for getting old friends together (pendy) & making a lot of new ones, thank you.

1) talks about the carnival float have been on going for a while,ready for the next carnival
2) we already do a lot for charity.
we do collections at the meetings along with the stag for the tea and coffee for nurses at QPH,
we have made donations to the childrens ward at QPH.
and have raised over £100 for the heart foundation.
we also raised £30 for a childrens charity STAR EXPRESS to send children who have terminal illness on holiday

this is all thanks to the people in the stag and accyweb members that come to the meetings

hey mick you also forgot to mention the £30 that was raised at an accyweb meet for the family of marie hartley, ( the london bombing) although we do not collect at all the meets. the amounts of money we have collected have been good,for the amount of people that have been to the meets & we have been discussing having a float at the next accy carnival for awhile kipax, sorry all behind the scene's work till a plan is formed,

A carnival float sounds like a brilliant idea. Presumably just discussed at moderator level so far.

Pity about the Arndale Clock. From the headlines in the Observer last year anyone would have thought we'd got that one sorted.

Just a note about the clock or the lack of it.
i have been to the town hall and the other places cant think of the name of the other building and NOBODY will give any information out about it they wont even tell me where it is stored.
so Kipax if you could send me by pm or e-mail some addresses i could contact i will see if i can find out what has happend to it and what is being done as this has died a death

What exactly are you trying to find out.... have you read the old thread?

we know where the clock is..
we know who own/is responsible for it
we know the person who dismatled has not been asked to put it back
we know greg pope got involved
we know observer got involved
we know who the person at the council is in charge of it

and finally we know that the only thing stopping the clock appearing again is nowhere to put it...

I personally got in touch with the council... the person who designed and made the clock.. greg pope, observer etc..... and ... i put everyhting in the original thread...including copies of emails and fax...


so I am at a loss as to what you or mez or gayle knight are trying to find out ????


in a nutshell the clock is under the arndale.. the council own it and they cant find anywhere to put it.. when they do they will ...put it ...so to speak..

Unless someone comes up with a viable place to put it then its gonna stay dead.. thats how it finished... no one could come up wiht a place for it where it wouldn't get vandalised at night.. had to be somewhere it could be watched (watched...gerrit?) during the day and locked away at night..

Think of somewhere then ask the appropriate people the possibitilites.... But it should be somwhere they havent already thought of... does such a place exist?


I see a thread has been started on accy carnival now.... When I mentioned the idea to Roy 2 mths before the last carnival he wasnt aware of any plans or discussions... seems you lot even kept it secret from the owner of accyweb as well as the rest of the users.,....still fuming on that one TBH .. I mention somehting then you and mick play the high and mighty telling me its already underway..... in secret.....not what accyweb is about at all is it :(

Its underneath the arndale.. I doubt the new owners know there is an underneath... I would be surprised if new owners could pick accrington out on a map... its in storage... doubt its been moved.... would bet my last pair of sweaty socks that its still there.

When we started the campaign it was too late for broadway..

I'd rather have it in the foyer of the bloody Town Hall than gathering dust under the Arndale.

At least the people that go into the visitor's centre would see it as they entered by the front door.

Without seeing plans, right in the middle of the place there is room at the cross roads of two aisles, like I said if you remenber the base isn't all that big, it's top heavy.

I'd make it work. I don't give in by the fact that it may not work. It would be a great focal point there as well.
