She's about my age and I can't imagine having to start coping all over again with nappies and feeds, potty-training, school, teenage blues. I have 2 grandchildren and I love them both to bits. I brought my own children up and I have always been "hands on" with theirs but after over 42 years of parenting and grandparenting I also have time to live my life for myself - as Nature intended. I just hope she has the energy, I haven't.

Couldn't have put it better myself Westender.. what a plonker, eh ?

Both of my children were born whilst I was in my early twenties but I do remember feeling really desperate for another child when I was around my middle forties. I think those feelings were mainly because I knew that time was running out for me. We did try, had some fun over it too!!

My daughter helped me out by giving birth to her first child and all my maternal emotions were heaped onto my first grandaughter, lovely Jamie!

I am now so relieved that I don't have a young teenager running around the place and am able to enjoy my fifties. I can't understand why this woman has done such a thing and agree that it's not natural and shouldn't have happened but best of luck to her and hers.

June xx

spot on west ender, also i think that as they will not do it in this country for ladies that age, she should be deprived of family allowance and sod off to where she paid the money. god help that child in its teens, cos she will probably have croaked then.

Just watched her on the news .. has the title of 'Dr' .. didn't say what. She said had made every provision if they expired, like money, care, etc., not quite the same though, eh ?

Hasn't even got their genes .. so what's the point ?? Better donating or caring for a child already here that needs some love, even though could be short lived, better than none.

I think she'd have been better off expressing her maternal love by providing a free child minding service, so that young Mum's who find themselves having to work could be hepled.

I was going to suggest fostering, but with current guidelines, she'd be considered too old for that.

Did she see a shrink before going through this. Even abroad they must have rules around this kind of action. Feel really sad and sorry for the sprog already.

I think if you have the readies you can just about buy anything, if you are prepared to travel.

I don't know the rules on IVF in Italy, I suppose being a Catholic country they might encorage it, and see it as not wasting God's precious seed.
