Reversal

A couple of weeks ago there was a thread regarding the disposal of clinical waste, in effect that HBC had cancelled this collection and such materials would have to be disposed of in the ordinary wheelie bin, that has now been reversed, the council will continue to collect this wast has before. There was also a post about the collection of bulky household items, with no time being given for the removal such items, I have been informed by Peter Britcliffe that this problem is being looked at closely with the intension of giving the people of Hyndburn a better service.

You can't argue about the power of AccyWeb. I think it is a shame Peter does not come on here himself and talk with us locals. I am sure he could sort out lots of problems and many of us have sensible suggestions.

I also think it's a shame, however I don't blame him for not coming here, theres lots of people who would jump down his throat and make the whole thing counter productive.

Heck i've been called Hitler for supporting David Cameron, the most center Conservative leader in decades..

If he can't take the cut-and-thrust of political debate, including banter and "people jumping down his throat", he shouldn't be in politics. Funny, isn't it, how Greg Pope, Graham jones and Gayle Knight are able to come on here and weather the storm?

andrewb 10-06-2006 09:48

Re: Reversal

Greg Pope has posted like 10 times to be fair. The others are not held up to scrutiny in such a way that Peter Britcliff would be, and I don't think the way for members of the public to do it is on a forum, theres more formal means such as elections.

Then again I'm not speaking for him, I don't know the guy, infact I wouldn't know his face if I saw him. So he could well come on here and have some political banter ;)

Re: Reversal

So you don't think that holders of political office should be held up to scrutiny or discuss things with members of the public? God help us if you ever get into power!

Also, the Peter Britcliffe I knew when we both used to play together in the backyard of his mum and dad's off-licence in Willows Lane was more than capable of giving as good as he got!

If you re-read my post, I said I don't believe a internet forum is the place to personaly scruitinise a council leader no. Express your thoughts sure, but not scruitinise expecting responces on a forum. Theres lots of other ways this can be done as I said in the post :p

Re: Reversal

Why shouldn't he come on here and explain his policies? You talk about him doing this via "more formal means", but what's wrong with a little informality? Your hero, touchy-feely, user-friendly "Dave" seems to be all for the informal approach!

andrewb 11-06-2006 08:45

Re: Reversal

Why should he? I don't know about local government, but im sure you can contact him in the same way you can contact an MP and question him that way.

Perhaps he'd be more happy to do it in person, im not sure. If I was in his shoes, I would not want to argue(because thats what it would be in the end) over an internet forum about policies. It gets people nowhere, because people on the forum will have most likely made up their own idea about something (be it by correct information, false information, loyalty to your supportive party or whatever) and nothing he will say is going to change that.

So, going by your theory, there's no point in any of us arguing about any political point on here? OK, you win, I'm not arguing with you any more because you've already made up your mind. Have a nice day.

andrewb 11-06-2006 09:10

Re: Reversal

Well there isn't much point no, nobodys going to convince each other they are right, because politics depends on your perception of things I guess.
However, us arguing we are not trying to scuitinise each other or influence decissions because we're not policy making..

Wynonie Harris 11-06-2006 09:18

Re: Reversal

So Peter Britcliffe's policies are so flimsy that they can't stand up to a bit of "scutinising" and he's so weak that he'll be influenced by others on here? In that case, Cyfr, you are totally right, he's probably best not joining in the wonderful, wacky world of accyweb!!
